What is your most favorite movie?

Capt.Jack, I have all three of your movies
sygnus21, We watch the old movies (black and white) when they're on in the evening. Some are quite interesting!

Well I love my old classics. Right now i'm on an Alfred Hitchcock binge as I just ordered

North By Northwest (Blu-Ray)
The Rear Mirror
Dial M for Murder

and just finished watching Vertago. All these are Alfred Hitchcock movies.

I also ordered The Maltese Falcon staring Humphrey Bogart. It's also in B&W.

I Can't wait to get these bad boys :D

Shawshank was great. I'll have to get A Walk to Remember since I collect Johnny Depp movies. I liked him in Benny and Joon, the Astronauts wife (Charliize Threon woo),Donnie Brasco,Blow, Edward Scissor Hands,
Sleepy Hollow and Once upon a time in Mexico . But then I like Robert Rodriguez movies. And of course Face Off Cage and Trovolta movies. Tim Burton flicks are always interesting. the only Hitchcock movie I remember is the Birds. When I was in High school they still had drive in theaters. Wel we had 3 and one of them they never used the exit on so we put our own lock on the gate and used to go to the movies almost every night.

I'm showing my age but I think the best movie I have seen is the 1964 "Fail Safe" with Henry Fonda and Walter Matthau. I saw it at a friends house when I was 12 and walking home I heard a jet in the sky (it was night) and it was a spooky feeling. I'll always remember that walk home.

I'll also have to rate Shawshank Redemption as a favorite of mine as well. Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins were great in that movie.

I have Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds. I remember when I first saw it as a kid it freaked me out. Good movie, but not really one of my favorites even though I have it.

My daughter gave me "Blow" for fathers day last year and I must say I absolutely loved that movie. I think that was one of the best Johnny Depp movies i've seen to date.

Logan's Run----it got be hooked on the whole sci-fi thing.

Yes, V for Vendetta was good.

And of course Star Wars.

I also had a thing for ONJ so of course I'd have to mention Grease and Xanadu.

Abyss wasn't bad.

And finally Blade Runner and the 5th Element are fantastic.

And the enire Indiana Jones saga, to include the last one; and oh yeah The Mummy and Scorpion King arc.

Then there's the comedys--Ghostbusters, Gremlins, Big Chill, 4 Seasons, St Elmos Fire, Breakfast Club, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, the one with Tom Cruise in it falling for the call girl (Risky Business), Animal House, War Games..

Horror Schtick--Motel Hell (Farmer Vincent's Fried Critters)...

I'm missing a whole bunch--I did manage a movie theater in the early 80s.----EDIT--OMG how could I forget the classic---PORKY's....hahahaha what a but-gusting funny flick that was.

Damn so so many.

They rarely make em as good as they used to although Transformers, Star Trek and this Avatar thing all were ok.

If I had to pick two-----Logan's Run and Blade Runner.

Not my favorite, but watched Ken Follett's "Eye of the Needle" last night.
Was impressed once again with the story-line, and Donald Sutherland's fine acting when it first came out, 1981.

Do you read Follett? I think he is the most brilliant novelist--ever!
His spy thrillers to his 2 stories about the church and people in more ancient times--all top notch A+ efforts.

I saw Eye of the Needle at the Paramount in Hot Springs, AR way back in 70 something---I can't remember it too well--need to see it again.

Not my favorite, but watched Ken Follett's "Eye of the Needle" last night.

For me, it all depends on the genre...

Comedy: Clerks. It's irreverent look at working at a job you hate is just classic, plus it's the first appearance of Jay and Silent Bob

Drama: It's either Shawshank, which is just an amazing movie, or The Departed. The Departed was the first movie in a long time which made me have a moment where I actually said "Oh S***, did that just happen?"

Horror: It. The movie that made an entire generation of kids afraid of clowns. :D (Followed closely by Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness. Gotta love Bruce Campbell.)

TV Miniseries: The Stand. Stephen King's single novel masterpiece turned into a classic on the small screen with a bunch of no-name actors.

There are a bunch I could mention (Goodfellas, Shaun of the Dead etc.), but these are the ones that I feel are the best of the best, at least in my head.

Another great american classic...

Gone with the Wind (1939) staring Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh. I bought the 70th Anniversary Edition for Christmas and though I've seen it a few times it brought back childhood memories when I watched it the other night. Absolutely brilliant.

For those whole like to collect old movies movies and like movie history I absolutely recommend this one and the Wizard of OZ 70th Anniversary Edition.

Amazon.com: Gone with the Wind (70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition): Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, Leslie Howard, Olivia de Havilland, Thomas Mitchell, Barbara O'Neil, Victor Jory, Laura Hope Crews, Hattie McDaniel, Ona Munson, Harry Davenpor

Amazon.com: The Wizard of Oz (70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition with Digital Copy and Amazon Exclusive Set of 4 Collectible 8x10 Character Posters): Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, Jack Haley, Frank Morgan, Billie Burke, Margaret Ham

Brilliant

When it comes to comedy, there's only two that stick in my mind, even now...

Blazing Saddles (1974) – Mel Brooks

Animal House (1978) – John Belushi

However, I suppose it depends on the generation :)

I will give a shout out to American Pie though, the first one. That was some funny stuff.

That was one scary movie. It probably would not be the same now, but with Russia and the US in the Cold War, it was fantastic. As a kid I was to go Boy Scout camping the weekend it was on TV. I stayed home to watch it, my parents just could not understand..........
