Okay so im currently using a speedtouch 330 for my windows 7 64bit and works fine. I've recently got a new system and for some odd reason it bsod when i run 6gb tripple channel memory. It will load up fine but around when you put the password for windows it just bsod. So i found out that it was my modem that was causing it. if i take 1 stick out it works fine so im confused. If i don't plug the usb in the computer, the computer runs fine.

Anyway so i need to get off this modem but i've never bought or set up a router before. I currently also have a laptop on the network which is connected via ethernet cable. I'm not sure about this whole 'N' network thingy is it really that good?

Anyway im in the uk so if you could possibly advice me any good routers or something that i should get to replace this modem. thanks.

Personally in my opinion if you are going to go for a D-Link router or any other make then i would make sure it can take DD-WRT custom firmware.

I have a D-Link 615 and it was truely terrible in allsorts of ways when i got it and nearly ended up binning it. But then i found out it was able to take DD-WRT's firmware's and i've never looked back.

good luck with whatever you choose ;)

If you look for a router it's wise to look at the Windows 7 compatibility list first. Routers that are on the list will support LLTP which means it will integrate nicely with Windows 7's network map and can be accessed from the Network and Sharing Center. That's not to say that routers not on the list won't work. You just have a much better chance of smooth sailing especially if you're planning to use wireless to talk to the router. Then it's *very* important.

Brands such as Netgear, D-Link, Linksys are usually a good choice. But if you're looking to run DD-WRT or Tomato, check their web sites carefully for compatible hardware.

Good Luck!

I just ordered this bad boy. It is wired only, no wireless and has gigabit ports.

Newegg.com - D-Link DGL-4100 10/100/1000Mbps GamerLounge Broadband Gigabit Gaming Router 1 x 10/100Mbps WAN Ports 4 x 10/100/1000Mbps LAN Ports

I dumped wireless last year and never looked back.

UPDATE:
I just received and installed this unit tonight. My ISP is suppose to be supplying 20M and on my old D-Link DI-524 I was maxing out at 13M. with this new unit I average 17M and burst over 20M. This router can handle a load.
