What security setup do you have?

My Westell router is set to Max, its WiFi is set to specific Mac addresses.

In Windows I use Agnitum Outpost Security Suite 2957, UAC enabled, Win Firewall & Defender are disabled.

PS - When torrenting I set the Westell to allow port forwarding.

i've never used any other AV apart from NOD32. I'm a regular at VB Bulletin and am always impressed with Eset's product. I've tried others but never for long. NOD is unobtrusive, easy to configure (even the default settings will suffice for the novice user). If I'm convinced another product would do a better job, I'll switch but I've yet to find one that works better for me.

I agree, NOD32 seems to be MUCH better than Kaspersky, norton and others.
On W7 7100, I mostly used Kaspersky Internet security 2010
On windows 7 6956, I used Norton 2010 beta which was OKAY, but VERY annoying and stupid features.
Now, on 7600, NOD32. The best of the best.

thanks to the post on how to remove the avira pop up. I did it. i now got rid of avast and have avira and i think its alot better. Also advised a couple of friends who are also running win 7 to get it and they did and it found viruses that avast missed. I can't think of anything bad about it besides the safe web search but i downloaded mcafee site advisor for free of there website.

I'm with you too. They still tag Win 7 support as beta, so hopefully they'll get it squared away soon.

MadMax, can you elaborate the leak tests that you are currently failing? Also, have you tried Outpost Security Suite build 2957? It does seem toi catch all outgoing requests under the Rules Wizard policy.

it fails firehole/wallbreaker/dnstester,outpost version is 6.7 x64 running on win 7 ultimate rtm x64.those are ancient tests and outpost blocked all of them on xp 32 bit.
and it seems to me that what's failing is the hips feature, and according to this i'm not so surprised anymore:huh:
i've never used OSS cuz i'll have to give up kaspersky to run it:)

Amazing how simple the answer can sometime be. I re-downloaded and now it works fine!

I will say though, I just recently turned off 'Windows Defender'. I was having issues previously running some other executable files within Windows 7 and after much googling and forum use, I tried switching Defender off and those problems magically disappeared. I wonder if it played any role in this case as well with the ESET download.

Do you know if the test suite from Matousec is a good set of tests? I'll give those a try.

Never mind - I just found a bunch of bad references on those

i would be using MSE but my only problem with it is that there would always be a zillion updates in the windows update history and that bothers me. is there any way to prevent this?

You know we all think it is more complex than it truely is sometimes. Just a matter of finding out. You solved it. I like the saying if you hear hoofbeats think horses not zebra's.

Glad you are working and I think you will like eset
