It's simple, this test tested not only Firewall (there are only 3-4 tests FW) which is on your machine but also ability to prevention against few popular methods using by malicious files/worms/malware/etc.
So when you'll disable Comodo with D+ module then your prevention=0.

Steve Gibson is a good man. He has his detractors, but all genius comes at a price.

SpinRite is an absolute must have application.

i can also vouch for him and his freeware and products...
he is a great person, but sometimes seems to overreact on some issues, but the reason is because he thinks of the worst case scenario, and it better that way than to ignore it (as you know this is security thread and as such am referring to his talk about security)...

i also listen his podcast's on security which really do break it down nicely and it makes very easy to understand some difficult to understand usually one hour or less (the big 3: network and encryption and virtualization get series of podcasts because they are big subjects...;))

the point that i am trying to make (and im pretty sure he is too) is that you can never be too careful with security, and should usually prepare for the worst...;)

as for spinrite i also believe this is a must have....
i am waiting actually to buy a site license so that i can use it officially on other computers i work on....;)

Wow. Checked their Demo Video, Thankz Antz, Thats One Cool Neat Application. Yup, But wish it had some trial specs like minimalized usage or something so we can see whats there. It seems worthy for $89. Wish I had that much. As you said it surely is good for Cooperate sector and Many Home users.

shields up has been there for a long time now and is with leaktest one of the first firewall testing tools available to the public

there are only two caveats and the only one i can actually would like to have...
i would want to have a setting where you lower how many samples it needs to try to recover a sector (sometimes 2000 is way too many, especially with many corrupted sectors it IS time consuming [in my experience both my c and d were corrupted and while my C took only 2 days to finish, my d drive was to be expected to finish in 458 days, yes there that many sectors corrupted, well in its defense the reason is because i left my bag unintended and well lets just say it fell 3 feet on the floor and it was better to just replace it using my warranty....]

the second caveat is how its still built around dos (its actually the only dos application i use now, well appart from win 3.11 + apps...;)) which means EFI and other architectures are not supported...

Steve himself said that 6.1 will change it so that it is bios independent (meaning it will not dependent on bios for actions as data transfer and hard drive recognition....)

AV : Microsoft Security Essentials beta
Firewall : Comodo
I saw an article in about.com regarding firewall issues and they had a nice link to https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 Where I saw some neat Explanations regarding Firewall and Internet Vulnerability. Then I used Leak Test and it said that it has Penetrated my Firewall.

So I started using Comodo, and now it warns me about any firewall penetration and I think its better for me :)

Seems Like that site is Good.:D
About tests via GRC site, here is a very informative conversation @ Wilders with Firewall expert (Stem):

My HOSTS file is >2MB. I have read that IE8 supercedes the necessity of SpywareBlaster and Spybot S&D, but I still use them as a front-end to manage zones. I have reverted to AVG Free - I was using Avast Pro, but I had purchased (yes, purchased) a pirated license. Defender is currently running but I am considering its removal. Windows firewall with a tweak or two. DEP and UAC enabled. NAT router.

SSID not broadcast. MAC addressing on the router.

I keep my RAID5 powered down and offline.

I would use MSE but it seems that I did not save the setup info when I qual'd for the beta.

In XP, I ran a RainMeter skin that showed I/O detail for all disk volumes - a visual heads up for unpredicted/unaccounted activity, but I haven't re-written the skin for 7.

Nothing extraordinary.

That' s nice. My skin ran in a 1920x64 frame at the bottom of a 1920x1136 desktop and was visible at all times. And showed substantially more system info in the same frame, including I/O detail individually per volume.

Only Windows Firewall here, but also running ThreatFire alongside MSE. I didn't get a score because ThreatFire popped up and asked me if I wanted to kill the process since it seemed malicious and it killed the process and quarantined clt.exe. A simple delete after that. :D

Oh, IMO You shouldn't have deleted it. I think this is what it does. It tries to check many ways that a true malicious code or something does to get our system. So if you get popups asking to block it then your ok, and if it doesnt get any popups and runs on and youll get a score saying that your not ok. I too got so many popups during the test and all i had to do it was to block them.
;)

No choice. It's either allow, kill process or kill process and quarantine.

ThreatFire is not a firewall per se, but it will stop software like that from trying to create havoc on the system. If I allow it, it would be the same as me saying allow to a firewall prompt. Then it gets through.

I get what you're saying though...my score would be so good at the end though either... ;)

Doesn't matter...I tried again (running Nod32 right now instead of MSE for fun) and Nod32 killed it while it was downloading...couldn't even try a test again.
