What Should be in OS (C:)?

I've just installed W7 and in the C drive I see some files and folders that are left over from Vista.

I have:
DELL
doctemp
Drivers
Intel
iPhone Backup Switch
PerfLogs
Program Files
Program Files x86
Users
Windows
aaw7boot.txt
Install.txt
rollback.ini

I'm in the process of deleting Windows.old

I want nothing remaining from Vista so can anyone tell me which files will be safe to delete.

Also my C drive says that it has 83gb of stuff on it. Do you think this is too much and where the extra stuff might be in?

The DELL folder most likely contains a drivers folder underneath it and then you may see alphanumeric folder names such as R123456 and the like. If so, you can safely delete the entire DELL folder as it is just a temporary location used by DELLs driver install routine to extract compressed files.

The Intel folder may also be expendable, as with my system this folder also served as a temporary staging area for the Intel driver install. To be safe, though, you may want to explore it first and also look over your Start menu to be sure no program icons refer to this location.

PerfLogs is required and must remain, as are Program Files, Program Files (x86), Users, and Windows.

My Win7 Pro install does not have any of the TXT or INI files you listed, but don't take my word for their importance level or lack thereof. As these files are text files, open them with Notepad and look over the contents. If they refer to programs no longer installed on your computer that may be an indication that you can safely delete them.

In my DELL folder I have:
docs
drivers - I saw the folders you said
Welcome Centre
Dell.cae
Some dell logo pics
QFEs.txt - This has info of my hardware and loads of alphanumericals starting with KB.

I checked the folder size of both DELL and Intel and both are less then 1mb and under 200mb respectively so I think I'll stick to the safe side on that.

the aaw7boot.tx has:

Loads of times each with a different time stamp, I'm guessing this can go.

The INSTALL.txt has some install time stamps from Zone Alarm which I had on Vista, this can go.

Google says rollback.ini has something to do with ZA and as you don't have this I think I'll be safe without it.



Just like to have a nod from someone who knows a bit about what's he's doing before I delete the stuff above.

At the very least you can delete the drivers folder from Dell. I can attest to it being a temporary location that is doing nothing but taking up space.
