What's the Best Anti-virus?

Strange, I have had nothing but excellent results from them. Originally started with McAfee when it was a part of Windows (watered down version), then full till Norton's bought it, and them moved onto NAV, then with all the new versions there after.

Question for the collective:
What is the best Tracking Security product? That is, blocking those insidious tracking software devices?
I am a novice in the subject, but so far it would appear that "Disconnect" and "Do Not Track Plus" are in front. Ghostery in the hunt also but is more of an expert-level tool from what I can understand.
As it is with Virus/Malware/Site-checking, one should only use ONE of these add-ons per browser.

I Like Collusion as a tool for informing the user, and by using Collusion and one of these tools, one can see the effect the tool is having.

Also as it is with various other protective measures, these products tax performance to varying degrees, and seem to have interaction issues with other privacy measures such as ad blockers or redirect-watchers

Zapp22? What you are talking about is basically a Trojan designed to track you on the internet. Any decent Security Suite should vanquish those nasty's. Also a good idea would be to run it while your computer is idle, that's WHEN they come out to play, and easy catchable by your security suite.

which antivirus is best.

hey all, i have tried alot of the free antivirus and most seem to do a good job at what they are supposed to do."Provide Basic Protection". i have heard and read all the horror stories about all of them. i haven't had alot of trouble with any,and the few problems i have had were easy to resolve. AVG 2012 free seems to do as good as MSE and i like the do not track feature in AVG. i think any free antivirus is good with other free anti malware protection. use common sense and freeware you should be good. since they are free try them all and find one that fits your needs. most seem to come with alot of crap that one doesn't want, that seems to be the biggest fault that i can find. freeware rocks and i am going to continue to try all that impresses me just for the hell of it. just my thoughts. thanks for the space. poorguy

they are all goog.

hey all, IMO free antivirus is all good because it is free. if you don't like it then uninstall it and don't use it and try another. i guess it is like beer lots of different kinds and they are all different, end result is that they work. "common sense " is my choice and that is a rough choice for many. just my view and opinion. interesting reading. thanks. poorguy

Hey,

Most malware/viruses tends to come through the browser. Either through something directed at the browser itself (hacked flash etc) or in the form of something you download, a program. Scanning http traffic should protect the browser better.

Maybe I should have said an av that scans everything on access. But most already do this and excempt http traffic, so you have to first download whatever it is and then its scanned when you are accessing it.

I like comodo free firewall. Avast. Outpost pro.

the best antivirus.

hey all, i am going to keep using my avg and my mse and my panda cloud all of which are on different boxes, no complaints with any of them. as to which is the best is the one you have that blocks the virus that we all have at one time or another let in just because it happens. paid versions are good for some but for myself the free does work. as to slow performance issues don't experience them on my boxes. have enjoyed all of the veiws of others experiences on how the different antivirus work for them. thanks. poorguy

People...People...You HAVE to learn how to get paid for Anti-Virus protection for FREE! Since joining here I have gave a few links to become Beta Testers for PAID FOR protection, and get it ALL for FREE! And it is NOT just Anti-Virus, it is complete suites of Computer Security. Avira is STILL looking for Beta Testers for their FULL Security Suite, and your pay-off is a FREE version to you after it is released into the retail chain. REMEMBER: With FREE YOU get what YOU pay for!
