What's the Best Anti-virus?

Does anyone have the 2012 or 2013 Norton AntiVirus Icon? I noticed that in the 2013 version they got rid of the Desktop Icon, and I can't find it in any of the Norton Folders. I've also googled and have yet to find anything. I might just install 2012 on my laptop and steal it from there if I can't find it
Frankly Echo you couldn't give me Norton but then I am a Kaspersky fanatic and I see you have Comodo firewall why not the Comodo Premium - free and is brilliant. Paid I reckon is best though and as always doesn't matter cos in the end the bottom lin is how you use your machine eh?

Still try the pic if it is ok if it is too big I am sure there is someone who can redo it for you:)

Thanks! and I've tried MSE and Comodo but as I said earlier I've never once had an issue with Norton, no viruses and it's mostly common sense that's the best antivirus in my opinion. I also was Kaspersky guy, but went back to Norton as I got really sick of the green lol.

ExhoX860, You might want to get a different anti-virus program, just looked at the review of NAV 2013, it had gotten a 4 score out of 10 from Maximum PC Magazine (Current edition), YOU can stick with Norton tho, just get Norton 360 v6 Maximum PC magazine gave that a 9 (kick ass) in the August 2012 issue.

I still have over 200 days left on my current subscription though. Maybe I'll go back to 2012, I've never had any issues with Norton at all.

I had Norton Anti-Virus since 2002 and loved it, switched to 360 about a year ago. I was getting tired of paying and couldn't try out different 'brands' since you are tied down with the subscription. So I tried a few and picked Microsoft Security Essentials using Win 7 firewall with Tiny Wall.. Surprised that the MSE and Tiny Wall did better than the 360  MSE passed all the EICAR virus test (Norton didn't) and passed the GRC LEAK TEST (Norton didn't).
My son went on all the, 'R' , 'X', 'XXX', 'Super Quad X' rated sites there is and the MSE popped up flags saying, 'VIRUS QUARANTINED and REMOVED' that were caught. Ran MalwareBytes and Emsisoft Anti-Malware to double check and found zero problems.
So I stuck with MSE and Win 7 firewall with Tiny Wall.... Secret thing to do with MSE is to update when you sign on. MSE downloads updates every 30-45 minutes, but only downloads automatically 2 or 3 times a day to your system.
But still a good system even though the test you read shows different.
Manual updating takes about 33 seconds.....and all this is FREE. ;)
I too have been having pretty good time with my av combo, thanks to you for that post back about tinywall. Works great along with avast free version, haven't ran into any problems so far and seems to do a good job :) Passes the firewall test online and avast has blocked me from getting a infection a couple times the past couple months from some sites. IMO this is a very good combo for me and the avast scanner has found stuff in my pc in the past and removed it before. Also have malwarebytes on the side the free version which i scan with sometimes and it has found stuff my av has missed in the past but rarely. I'm usually pretty good at keeping my pc clean and rarely get infected, only happens in occasions but not often.

I have had an problem today with an email account being hacked. I noticed it because my inbox had 47 'Mail Delivery Failed' messages. I contacted the hosting company, who said I must a) given out my password, b) chosen a weak password, or c) got a virus. Well its a no to the first 2 and I doubted that it was a virus as I am so careful what I open etc. My security set up is MSE and Malwarebytes, which is the paid version running in protection mode, and is the same on my desktop and laptop. I carried out full scans on both pc's and nothing was picked up. Is it possible that these security programmes missed something? I thought that my combination was pretty secure.

Hi,

You have an excellent security system. Nothing, however, is infallible. For peace of mind, perform a full system scan using the ESET on-line scanner.

Post back if you need more help.

Regards,
Golden

Hi Golden,

I ran ESET and it found nothing. Perhaps the hack was at the mail hosting end?

I can send and receive mail using that account with no problem. I did change all passwords as soon as I noticed the problem. Interestingly, all of the emails that I supposedly sent show different IP addresses in the information. If they had come from my PC, they would show that IP address.

Just the one address. There are 5 family accounts liked to the domain name, but mine is the only one affected. Additionally I have another domain and email account for business, which gets pulled in to Outlook, along with the family one and this was not compromised.

hey all, i use both mse and avast free on different computers. between the two i like avast the best, it seems to block more then mse. both are good and both seem to work very well. try them both and choose the one that works or that you like the best. as said earlier both are good and work very well and are free. i have tried most of the free ones and these two are the best in my opinion. thanks poorguy

Hello poorguy did you try the Comodo Premium? I put it on fixes for friends and some folks who are real hard up and even had it on my tester for ages - not a problem and probably the best firewall in the game.

Free Internet Security, Download Internet Security Software Suite - Comodo < green button and the config easy to set up. Only thing is tick don't show Geek buddy at the start up screen.
But there again you can quicken up 7 with Brinks tutorial if you are not using that already

Interesting the MSE is at the bottom of the lists in your 2nd link.
Yeah Gary strange how these tests hardly ever mention Comodo wonder why that is cos I reckon it is a really goos set up.

Plus the SuperAnti didn't scrub up that good but I have found it top stuff.
