What's the Best Anti-virus?

Webroot is one of our affiliates as of last week, we been selling and installing much. Time will tell if its any soon enough, our exe does not need a key just file transfer through Logmein rescue to cx desktop and run it, permanently activated for ...lol...perpetuity.

i run all these at the same time, good line of defense. i never like to stick to just ONE antivirus, if your computer can handle it go for it. just make sure theres no major conflicts between em

Panda Cloud AV Free

What's the heck with Panda Cloud Antivirus v2.3.0 (free)...?

After reading the last AV comparative board i decided to install the free version 2.3 after uninstalled MSE, all went smooth on install and easy parameters could be found and seems to work fine.

But on reboot after login/password session i got black screen and only Task manager could be accessible.
Same behavior on 2nd reboot.

So, uninstalled all in Safe Mode, but a driver leftover did the same black screen.

Went back again in Safe Mode and deleted in registry and in c:\windows\system32\drivers\NNSNAHSL.sys (Network Activity).

Rebooted fine.

Does any of you have encountered this behavior?

I have installed panda on multiple machines and never had a single issue.....

Of course that doesn't mean anything as there is millions of ways to have a system configured.

I honestly don't know why that would happen, but I would try to install it again. Where did you get the installer file from?

Also, I would let pandas forum know.

Humm, well i'll try again later. Must be some conflicts i have to trace.

BTW, after uninstall MSE, Windows Defender updated itself. I saw it didn't disabled also itself after Panda install...might have to disable W.D manually in services.msc!

Windows defender can be used alongside panda with no issues. I use them both along with malwarebytes pro and its fine. I don't know if I should disable windows defender, as I cannot remember if internet explorers security features like smartscreen work with it somehow. I don't use internet explorer, but If I ever did. Maybe I should turn windows defender off...

Also, heard protect does not run at startup or have an active shield. So since its a on demand scanner, it cannot interfere with your AV software.

Hello,

Have been a happy MSE user for some years now but keep coming across forums that indicate MSE may not be robust enough for 2014. About to upgrade to MBAM 2.0 Premium & thought maybe this was a good time to review my choice of AV. Did not read all 82 pages of this thread, only the 2014 pages & I see some posters here still believe in MSE, some agree it could be better. Who here agrees that MSE is lacking or just the opposite that MSE is still a good AV?

The free version of Avast (minimal install) is running on my old Windows XP machine & seems to do a fine job (will be installing Ubuntu down the road). Had McAfee for a while - seemed like an OK AV & also Symantec @ one point which I thought was a real resource hog.

For free realtime protection PC Magazine likes AVG & Avira for 2014. For free suites Comodo & ZoneAlarm.

I am not opposed to paying for AV but kinda spoiled by MSE me thinks. Realizing this a loaded question & likely to get a number of different responses but gotta start somewhere. (d)

As you said this can be a contentious issue/topic. PERSONALLY, after using (and being very happy with by the way), Avast free for years I became annoyed by the newer updates and their associated pop-ups, nags etc. and switched to MSE. After about 2 months I became so infected that a new install was needed, probably my fault as I sometimes go to some of the more unsavory sites. Nevertheless with Avast I never had that problem so I switched to BitDefender (free) and could not be happier. No nags, very little system usage and excellent protection. I now recommend it to my friends and family with no reservations.

My advice is: try a few of them for a couple of weeks apiece and THEN choose which best suits YOU and your system. There are probably zillions of configurations for our many different makes and models of computers and there is no such thing as "one size fits all". Find the one that YOU are most comfortable with and that does what YOU want it to and then that one will be "The Best Anti-Virus".

Hmm...BitDefender wasn't even on my radar, free is good. Will definitely check it out.

Looks like there are some exclusions need to be set for MBAM & BD. Are you running MBAM?
