Which HDD to install Windows 7 on

I have two HDDs.

640GB WD Black Two-platter 32mb/cache
500GB Seagate 7200.12 Single-platter 16mb/cache

I've run HDTach and HDTune and this is what I've discovered. The Seagate beats the WD in Read/Write. The WD wins in access time and burst.

What is more important to a Windows 7 installation drive?

Truthfully, it's something you'll barely notice.

I'd choose the 640 WD.

Access time is probably the most important for best performance across the board...given the other things that you mention.

I would put the OS on the WD drive...as the 640 caviar's are fast drives. But I honestly don't feel that you would see much difference between the two in real life use.

I usually install the OS to the smaller of two hard drives, or create a smaller partition. I do that solely because I can then fit an image of the main OS drive/partition onto the second.
As reghakr said, a diference of a few milliseconds won't be noticeable. If you had say a 128Gb SSD in your pile of HD's, that would definitely make a diference

Thanks guys. I already had it on the 640GB, but I wanted to see if I made the right choice. Later down the road when SSD drives mature and become a little more affordable/available, I will certainly go that route.
