Hi, I just got a new hp laptop and it was stuffed with a lot of bloatware! I took off the most obvious bloatware, but wanted to know what else I would be able to remove. Anybody that can help? Thanks

Without knowing whats installed, we cant really say what is safe to remove...

Post a list and I can tell you what can and cannot be safely removed, in most cases everything to do with HP can be removed. Better safe then sorry though!

If you have the M$ install DVD, I'd format the boot drive and re-install with it.
Edit: you'll have to reinstall the HP mobo drivers which you can get from their website.

That will Void the HP warranty .. It's only good with the original Software.

When getting HP support .. They may ask you to run some of their tools...
And possibly perform a HP system Recovery.

It might be better to just make sure all the HP Bloatware is not running at start up.

The first thing I'd remove is Norton & M$ 60 day Office trials .. & Maybe HP Media Smart
But not sure what else the new HP W7 computers come with ??

But .. I say again .. The first thing to do is make your HP recovery DVDs

Hi, thanks for all your responses. I have created the recovery disks already, that was the first thing i did. CYBERLINK DVD SUITE (i will use it as a dvd burning suite, but remove all the parts of it i wont need)
Adobe Reader 9
HP Mediasmart (and all the apps linked to it)

DigitalPersona (for the fingerprints)
HP wireless mouse drivers
IDT Audio
HP Help and Support
HP Total care advisor
Lightscribe system software

Hp, b4 you start removing programs use msconfig and see what startsup when you reboot! If you have several apps that are in first start it will slow you down. Plus, as you see the programs and try them out you may like them.

Reinstalling the OS from the HP recovery DVDs .. Or the Recovery Partition ...
Will NOT Void the warranty.

I don't see where you removed the Marketing Bloatware Trials .. Norton and M$ Office.

After you get it cleaned up .. and before you install W7 ...
You might want to Image it to an external HDD

I'm a HP user. I know for a fact that installing a clean OS onto your HP Laptop does NOT void your warranty, even the standard 1 year warranty.

It was sort of suggested to use a clean copy of Windows ... To perform a Bloatless install.
That would Void the warranty...
Like when I upgraded my new Vista computer to XP :D

I know what was said, I was saying it doesn't void the warranty. I'm positive of that. Maybe it does with Dell or Gateway but not with HP/Compaq. :)

Since HP couldn't get my Vista working .. They were going to rebate my Vista install ..
But warned me it would Void the warranty without the Original HP OS.

So, I kept the original HDD (OS) ... Just in case.
Same would apply to another copy of Windows (Same Version) ..
Without the HP included Bloat ... Which I have also done.

But we're being picky here ... Time to move on.

I don't know who you talked to, or when, but HP knows I have Windows 7 on my laptop, and Vista was preinstalled.

Back when 7 RC was first out of course they threatend to void my warranty but now that its out and golden.. they wont. :)

I just don't want people having false information, how long ago did you get your information? :|
