So this one looks pretty good.

Is it worth upgrading to a 2 tera yet, or are they not as cost effective as the 1 teras are?

I too like WD. And this seems to be within my price range. Is it possible to shoot for a lower price, or its not worth losing quality of the specs on this 1 tera?

If you keep an at Newegg, every week or 2 they go on sale, I've seen them as low as $80.00USD.

I got a Hitachi 2tb drive 2 weeks ago for $134 after mail in rebate

Wow that's a great deal on that 2tb WD. I'll be keeping my eye on that one and the black 1tb and see which one I can afford in a couple of weeks. But that 2tb is winning right now. It's got double the cache too...

Why doesnt the Green model list any RPM's?

Is it really a "green" HDD? Or is the green just basically the model name?

They call it "green" because they want all the tree huggers to buy it but they don't want people to know it doesn't run at 7200RPM so they don't list the RPMs.

From what I have read, the Caviar Black models average about 10 watts of power while the Caviar Green models run around 6 watts of power. The difference of 4 watts of power is absolutely nothing when it comes to the rest of the components within a computer.

Instead of saving a few cents by using a "green" drive, I elect instead to use a "black" version and simply turn the computer off 2 minutes earlier and save even more power.

1). lower temps
2). lower noise

I do value a fairly cool and quiet PC.

The WD web site lists it as 5400-7200rpm. It varies depending on what is needed (don' t ask how it knows). I think they were designed for external use since they produce less heat and noise. I prefer the Black for better performance. My case fans are nosier and the fan keeps the drive cool. If just used for storage the Green would be fine, but for the OS the Black is better.
