Which keyboard layout should I choose?

Hello. I am setting up my new PC right now and I have been given the option to choose a 'keyboard layout'

I speak English, I'm American, and I'm right-handed.

I don't know the differences between the layouts. Which of these I should choose:

• United States-Dvorak
• United States-Dvorak for right hand
• United States-International
• US

You need to choose the layout that matches the physical layout of your keyboard, otherwise you might find things confusing. For instance, the shifted 2 character on US keyboards is @, whereas for the UK it is ".

As you are living in the United States you need to choose the US keyboard layout.

If you need to use diacritics when typing then you need the US International keyboard layout.

It's an alternative to the Qwerty-type keyboard and is supposedly more comnfortable to use.

I followed your links but did not learn a lot other than goverment is trying to tell me what keyboard to use now. == Is Dvorak a different letter layout so that I would have to learn to type again? What is the Dvorak-right hand? I quess the one I am using now is the Qwerty, but I never did know that.

You always know if you're using a QWERTY keyboard because the first six keys on the top row of the letter keys spell...............believe it or not, QWERTY.

It's a throwback to the days of the girls' typewriters in the typists' pool.

Thanks for the info. I had never hard of the Dvorak Keyboard and had no I idea that I typed on a Qwerty. Learn something new everyday.
