which programs are unnecessary?

Well, do you see a difference? is it booting alot faster? does it respond quicker?
Yes i do sir. It is faster than before now.

Why don't have a look either in Services in the Admin tools...

I know a guy call "BlackViper" have a list to set disable, manual, automatic all the services options. It's looks for Vista system but seems explaining it for 7 aswell.

Do not have the link right now. will post later when found.

I have a certain time ago done it on Xp sp3 and newly on some of my Win 7 but not from his list...just reminded what was on Xp.

OOPS! I cross posted seekermeister!

I beleive also it's a good way to run Win7 when needed fast apps.

EDIT:
Here the link again:

Ok, let me clear this up..

When i say to remove them, i mean only untick the box next to them, not to uninstall the program, as Swarfega stated earlier.

I'm not familiar with the program Winpatrol, but i use CCleaner, which is a neat little cleaning app, with a built in Startup Control section, which is where i do my startup editing, i've enclosed a little picture of what it looks like.

This is typically different to the MSConfig method, as this give you the option to delete the Startup entry, unlike MSConfig, where you only disable it, but it still exists.

I'd be a little careful with ccleaner. On more than 1 occasion, I've had it render a computer a bit useless and have had to resort back to using a system restore point to get it booting again properly. Your mileage will vary, and many have used it without trouble...but it's one of the tools that I have removed from my toolkit and generally don't use anymore.

Fair warning, I myself, have never ever had a problem with CCleaner, it's one of the programs i have alot of trust in, but still keep an eye out for what it does.

Personal opinion really.
