Try resetting the BIOS hardware/software connections?
  1. Shut down and turn off the computer.
  2. Unplug the computer from the wall or surge protector (then remove the battery if it is a laptop).
  3. "Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station, disconnect
cables to printers or devices such as external monitors, USB memory sticks or SD cards, headset or external speakers, mouse or auxiliary keyboard, turn off WIFI and Bluetooth wireless devices." (Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues HP Pavilion dv5000 Notebook PC series - HP Customer Care (United States - English))
  4. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. This closes the circuit and ensures all
power from components is drained to clear the software connections between the BIOS
and hardware and clear any corruption in the temporary memory.
  5. (If it is a laptop, plug the battery back into the laptop and then) Plug the computer back into the wall. Do not reconnect any unnecessary peripherals; monitor, keyboard,
and mouse should suffice and be the only peripherals reconnected.
  6. Turn it on to reinitialize the software connections between the BIOS and hardware

I think it is time to see if the problem might be the screen itself. Are you using a laptop or desktop? In either case, is their a second monitor, or a tv perhaps, that you can connect the computer to so that you can see if the computer works fine connected to a different screen?

Try connecting the laptop to a screen or monitor. Startup the computer after connecting it. See if the monitor/TV shows any sign of recieving a signal after the normal amount of time it takes for your computer to start up. To give an example, when I have my TV connected to my laptop via HDMI cable, and I cut the TV on, followed by the laptop, my TV says "NO SIGNAL" until the laptop gets to the login screen. Then it says "HDMI 1 1360x768" in the top right-hand corner, but the rest of the screen stays black until I login. If the computer is loaded up, you should be able to type your password as long as you don't click anything. Type your password and press enter. The TV/moniter should display your desktop at that point.

If you cannot get to your desktop using another screen, and the laptop shows no other signs of loading Windows (like playing the Windows start-up sound if you have it enabled) then I would assume a hardware problem worse that just the screen being messed up.

Sounds like you have a hardware issue. I recommend you contact HP.
