Why can't I do a clean install?

I will fill the specs in asap.

One question, how do i "remove" drives? When i keep only one drive, does it matter which one? This whole time, i have been reinstalling and randomly deleting partirions etc. Wirh all the drives, not focusing on one. That may be the problem. Waiting for this start up repair to finish searching for problems, then i'll remove the drives and see whats up.

How many HD's do you have ? Are they SATA or IDE HDs ? Do you know how to disconnect the power & data cables from them. The one drive you are going to use should be the primary connection on the MB.

Then it's likely the error you got was about boot sector corruption from bad partitioning, when what you need to do is install with only one HD plugged in, Clean it with Diskpart (Clean All if you can stand it) then either partition using Diskpart as in tutorial or use DVD Drive Options to Create Partition and format before install.

Doc will help you get your HD's sorted. He builds time machines and can tame any beast.

SATA data cables are long thin red, yellow, orange, or blue. IDE data cables are the flat gray ribbon cables with a 40pin connector on each end. Power cables usually have 4 standard wires (Yellow, black, black, red) with a molex connector on the ends.

Which HD would you like to choose for installing your primary Win7 OS on ?

Are these new HD's or used? If used, run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html from DVD Command Line, and test WD with Lifeguard CD and Seagate with Seatools CD.

Have you tried using the other DVD drive?

Greg, yeah haha there was a three day period when i switched off using each cd tray. Everything on the computer is new. Before "i" crashed it, it was freshly upgraded with all this new equipment and the everything was cleaned 100% before given to me.

Try setting SATA controller to AHCI in BIOS setup at some point if wiping the HD fails.

THen try IDE mode.

I would use the 2 I have highlighted in RED. Disconnect all the others (power & data cables) But I would connect the WDC 160gb HD to the first SATA connector on the MB, then the DVDram drive on the second SATA connector. Set Bios to boot first from
CD/DVD Optical drive.

You can probably get by with just disconnecting the power & data cables from the drives not being used during the install.

Sorry I'm semi-dumb. Using my ipod touch for all this info/website/ everything, basically makes eberything a bit harder. The point.. Where are these drives located in the case? really sorry for all these dumb questions

They are usually mounted in a vertical mounting bays at the front of the case so, the DVD drives can open out the front. And the HD's are usually mounted in smaller bays under them.
