why is there not a windows 7 64-bit discussion group?

Following the logics of OP: I'm running Ultimate and Enterprise editions because of Bitlocker and language packs. Should we get Win7 x86 Ultimate & Enterprise forums, and Win7 x64 Ultimate & Enterprise Forums, because issues with these two editions are so different?

Starter and Home Basic are so reduced, and different than other editions, so do we need Win7 x86 Starter and Home Basic forums and Win7 x64 Starter and Home Basic forums?

seems to me if issues like that affected Ultimate & Enterprise and not starter and home basic
they should have a section on the forum also.

should some 32 bit user have to wade pages of issues of getting a nice 64-bit browser to work with flash, issues that dont matter to him at all?
how about the newest video driver for his card? wait once again not his problem and not info he can use
and about 5000 more issues like this will crop up
leaving the post to remember to post his version of windows and the version of the software he wants to use.
just take a look at the post of some guy looking for a 64-bit image browser
about 20 idiots chimed in about the cool 32bit viewer they were using telling him it worked fine in 64-bit. i bet he enjoyed filtering all that out. just look at the guy telling my with out flash player my life will not exist

fact is there are major operating differences between 32bit and 64 bit.
today the issues are small as it will take time for pure 64bit software and hardware to come out.
and when they do, there will be TONS of newbies who cant tell the difference. if half the conversation is what bit is the software and what bit is the os it will be a night mare.

Yet again it all boils down to general 'everyone no matter what version of Windows 7 they are running could expierience this problem' such as registry BSODs which is probably 80%+ of this forum or specialist problems like the age old flash in a 64 bit browser problem or how to get Windows XP mode apps in the Windows 7 start menu.

If we're looking to satisfy the masses it would be easier to not have specialist pages and lump them all in together and hope the specialist ones get spotted by specialists and are solved.

However if we had specialist forums, for example 64 bit specific specialist problems, who's to say we shouldn't keep creating sparsely populated niche forums for everything?

Break it up Kari and Nutpantz you know what the consiquences for fighting can be.

In answer to your questions Nutpantz all the updates (except perhaps Windows Aero ones) are the same for every version of 7. The drivers are all the same. Pro, enterprise and ultimate will run Windows XP mode as well as being able to perform certain network connectivety tasks as well as some other stuff I don't use that the other versions can't do. Home Basic and below don't support Aero.

There are more differences between Ultimate / Enterprise and the other editions, than there is between x86 and x64. If you were half so clever you'd like us to believe, you would have noticed it yourself. Just as we now have to remind some posters to provide their specs, we may have to remind someone to tell us what version he/she is running. No big deal; it will take two posts to clear that up. And some people are running both 32 & 64 bit systems.

Bottom line, it is working just fine as it is. If it ain't broke...

Got me confused. I run Windows 7 64bit and most of my apps are 32bit since 64bit versions are not available yet. If I have a problem with a 32bit app in what section should I post? I think it is fine like it is so that is how I voted.

Nutz, you misunderstood my point. I tried to explain it to you that for instance different editions of Win7 have more differences than x86 and x64. For me, it seems that this your passion to get an x64 forums goes a bit too far, coming from a member who has just joined.

We are, like I mentioned, over 70,000 quite happy members here, liking and using the Seven Forums as it is.
