So my only network adapter showing under device manager is the Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller.

No matter what I do (numerous restarts, run as administrator, etc) I cannot get the WiFi adapter to download from the HP site.

I have an HP G6-1b79dx Windows Professional x64.

I click through the agreements, I overwrite existing files as I've tried this multiple times, it downloads (sometimes says it installed incorrectly but I ignore it as it says) and then I restart. When I'm back on, no changes or installation at all occurred.

Going by your first post its the Realtek Local Area Network (LAN) Driver you need to download .. Or are you missing both Drivers

Then download the Realtek Local Area Network (LAN) Driver .. Not the WiFI Driver

No problem.

Here's the back story:

My WiFi was going in and out (as in would work, bad signal, then go missing). I would install various drivers and it would magically go back on for anywhere from a few hours to a few days. Sometimes I would just restart the computer a few times and it would work.

Finally I looked for the bigger issue and found some corrupt files in my CBS.log file, I repaired windows using an ISO and the error disappeared but to no avail, still no WiFi.

And now I'm here.

Have you done a system scan using sfc/ scannow lately .. If that is all clear the only way i can see you getting it back is a Clean Install .. If you have the Product Key COA that will be possible even if you dont have the Windows Disc ..

Why do I have to do a clean install?

No signals at all refering to wifi in screenshot. Not even a section "other devices". Windows simply can't find it. Did you turn off wifi accidently in BIOS or some hardware switch on laptop?

As test: Download/burn an ubuntu or any other linux live cd and check if wifi works then.
It's simple in Ubuntu 12 using a LiveCD/USB.
  1. Go to System settings → Software sources → Additional drivers
  2. Select any available option other than "Do not use the device"
  3. Hit "Apply changes"
Enjoy your WiFi
