Hey,
I have an Acer Aspire AOD255 netbook with an Intel Atom N450 CPU and 1GB of RAM.

Windows says I can run 64-bit on it (screenshot attached), but somebody said Intel Atom won't run it.

Will it?

Thanks

I think 1GB or RAM will be the big factor. I haven't verified but I seem to remember 64 bit requiring more than 1GB of RAM. And, the big plus for 64 bit OS is that it will address more than 4GB of RAM.

I would just stay with 32 bit OS, even if the 64 bit installs its not really going to get you anything.

Thanks, my eyes read that as 16GB. 64 bit need a minimum of 2GB.

1GB would be too low. The computer can take 2GB, but there is not much reason to put a 64bit on a 1GB or even a 2GB system.

Okay guys, thanks for the replies.
I might just stick with 32-bit, until I maybe get a RAM upgrade...

One more question...
Does the Windows Classic theme make a computer faster?
Thanks

It will free up memory, but it won`t make it run any faster.

I run 32 bit on any less than 4gb RAM for better performance. I've got a laptop with only 1gb RAM which runs fine, but I'd try to upgrade it to at least 2gb RAM. An Atom is a weak processor though so I would first research what can be expected from it with 2gb or even the maximum RAM allowed.

Run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

Try the Classic Theme and see how you like it.

You can also set the visual effects to "best performance":
Start >
Control Panel >
System and Security >
System >
Advanced system settings
In the area for Performance, click on the button named Settings...
...then select Adjust for best performance.

:-)

First you need to ask yourself why do you want to put 64bit windows on such computer, you don`t need to...and probably it will run very slowly, you need at least 4gb of ram to have 64bit windows. You can try it but i don`t recommend it.

Win 7 32 bits has a minimum memory requirement of 1G - Recommended 2G to 4G to run well.
Win 7 64 bits has a minimum memory requirement of 2G - Recommended 4G as minimum.

As already mentioned, Win 7 64 bits with 1G of memory, it may run, but it will be very slow.
Don't do it. Install Win 7 32 Bits.
