I am setting up an Acer notebook computer for a friend. The OS is Windows 7 Home 64-bit, but he wants to use Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Newegg has Windows 7 Pro 64-bit as an OEM installation. Will this update Win 7 Home so that the installed programs are still there?

Thank you,
Jan

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219576-clean-up-factory-bloatware.htmlRemind him that almost all consumers only need the features in Home Premium, so unless he knows for sure he needs one of the expensive features in Pro he should use the $100+ OS that came with the PC and not waste its value.

Otherwise Windows Anytime Upgrade - How to - Windows 7 Forums to insert the Pro Product Key to unlock the few extra expensive features in Pro, then preserve the resulting Pro install using backup imaging if it ever needs to be reinstalled. Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup
System Image Recovery

Does the PC still have the factory install? If so that is the worst possible install of Win7 one can have, larded with bloatware and duplicate utilities which interfere with better versions built into Win7. That's why most tech enthusiasts won't even run such an install but instead http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164. You can clean install Pro to get a cleaner install than Anytime Upgrading the factory install.

Until then you can Clean Up Factory Bloatware.
