Will there be any loophole to extend Windows 7 support?

On the Windows XP forum I saw that support for POSReady 2009 ended recently, and that there was a registry hack to trick Microsoft into continuing to send XP desktop OSes more updates despite support having ended long ago:

Is there anything like this for Windows 7, or no?

There will be some chargeable services for enterprise customers who are prepared to pay, (large amounts), these may leak into the wild although they will likely arrive bearing gifts - Key loggers bot and such nasties, Microsoft have stated often that there will not be any XP like post EOL updates.

But couldn't the same or a similar hack be done to the registry file with Windows Embedded POSReady 7?, since its extended support ends on October 12, 2021?
I know two additional years isn't much, but it's better than 0.
Since this was done with Windows XP, couldn't the same be done with Windows 7, since this version of POSReady is based on the Windows 7 platform?

I shouldn't worry. Vista eol was a couple of years ago. MS are still issuing occasional critical updates. Lastest one is 1st April 2019.

The only Vista OS updates are technically for Windows 2008 the server version of Vista which is still being supported. 2008 R2 the server version of 7 is going out of support on the same date as 7 so there won't be any more updates for it either.

I know people bash the Windows security updates since some of them are fishy, but the recent Japanese time update was very beneficial. For people who want continued security updates after January 14, 2020, maybe a registry hack to receive updates meant for Windows POSReady 7 is the way to go. I'm not saying anyone has to do it, but it could be an option, if it's possible. I'm not sure how effective or compatible the updates for Windows POSReady 2009 were for Windows XP users, that would be a question for me to ask them. But since POSReady 7 is based on Windows 7, I think a registry hack would be an effective way to artificially extend support for the OS until October 12, 2021. Thoughts?

The "hack," which worked for me for 4 extra years on XP, is to avoid fishy websites and downloads, keep external images of your system and keep your anti-malware programs updated. It works like magic. A little added flourish would be sandboxing your browser.

I have 2 machines in use and a spare, so if a mobo dies, I can substitute the 3rd. I recommend hoarding a few before they disappear completely. A friend's husband has just passed, a retired computer engineer, and he left 7 or 8 machines with various OS's, all in perfect operating order...

I want to use win7 "forever" and never upgrade to win10

Is there anything like this for Windows 7, or no?

As SIW2 stated, important security updates are offered for EOL'd OS's. I use Windows XP SP3 for my Digital Audio Workstation, cos Pro Tools 6.4 does NOT run on anything higher. Intel Core Duo machine with 2GB of Ram, runs great on XP and on 7. I just installed a batch of updates. Happens at least quarterly, so I would not worry about Windows 7. I predict it will be viable for at least 3 years past EOL date, if not longer. After that point, the hardware companies and Browser companies will stop making Windows 7 updates for their hardware (Like Display Drivers, etc) and browsers will cease support for Windows 7, and things like iTunes will lose support, and that's an important app for me cos I have to have the drivers it provides so I can hack my iPhones, even the non-apple apps like 3uTools, iBackupBot, Cydia Impactor (for Sideloading) and iMazing require iTunes to be installed. But the loss of support for that stuff is a way off at this time. And even on my XP machine, I can use an older version of Vivaldi (a Chrome derivative) for browsing and it can view all websites, for now. Until they come up with "HTML 50" (HTML5 causes IE to choke and most websites use it now).

I totally refuse to run Windows 10. And I'll continue to boycott it, until they provide a way for Automatic Updates to be 100% shut off. I had found a way to stop them on the original version of Windows 10, it was through the task Scheduler. But to my dismay, the last time I installed the latest version of Win 10, they had made all of those entries READ ONLY and Unmodifiable. Maybe if you set it up in an earlier version of W10 and then do an In Place Upgrade, it may save the settings. But I would not bet on that.

I want to diffidently remind this community of Windows 7 users, about WUFUC. As you probably know, MS has snuck an update into the MS Updates that cause any machines built with the latest Intel i5's and up (and equivalent AMD Processors) to not be able to download updates for Windows 7. This sneaky, underhanded and filthy trick by MS caused a developer named Zeffy to get extremely pissed off, and create WUFUC which bypasses this cack:

Release wufuc v1.0.1.201 . zeffy/wufuc . GitHub

He stopped development of it last year, but MS has not unveiled any new threats to Windows 7 and this should work for all new CPUs. Not sure if installing requires a reboot, but if I recall correctly I didn't have to, Wupdate showed up instantly. Don't know if this will help with/after EOL, but it should keep you going until then.

Didn't work. The Task Scheduler trick shut it off completely, and I never had to worry about them ever again, which was a week, cos my HDD crashed irrecoverably and I decided to never bother with Windows 10 ever again. Ironic, after finding a solution I had been looking for for years, I was only able to enjoy it :banghead: for a week, where's the ROFLicon? Oh...

:banghead: that works.
