I am troubleshooting a problem with an eSATA hard drive that causes Windows to freeze if the drive is plugged in at powerup. I started Windows in safe mode, and saw that the last driver loaded before freeze is C:\Windows\system32\drivers\disk.sys. However, when I view this folder in Windows Explorer, there are very few files in the folder, and disk.sys is not there. Question: where are drivers stored in 64-bit Windows 7, or why am I not seeing them in the above folder? I am showing hidden files, folders, and drives in Windows Explorer, so I should be able to view them if they are there.

Thanks!

Jonathan,

Thanks for the suggestion and the welcome. I checked my Folder Options View settings, and I already had unchecked the selection to "Hide protected operating system files". Having reviewed and verified this setting, now when I go back and look at the \drivers folder again, I see hundreds of .sys files, including disk.sys! I have no explanation/excuse for why I didn't see them the first few times I checked there (brain flatulence?), but problem solved! Thanks again.

Thanks for the report. Perhaps Windows Explorer messed up somehow.
