Hi

My win 7 64 bit professional has started to go to sleep right after booting up. The desktop appears briefly and then it sleeps. Pushing the power button then wakes it as normal.

Any ideas?

By any chance, is it connected to a battery backup? Is it a laptop? Have you tried booting in safe mode?

Sounds like a prank I would pull on someone- put a sleep command in the Run registry key loaded at startup.

I might not be able to do anything before it sleeps but I can once I rewaken it.

But obviously I've tried all the power settings including restoring to default already. It isn't that.

Anyway, since I last posted I used msconfig to laboriously narrow it down to a single service: Windows Event Log. If I disable this from starting the problem goes away. But I want event logs so only a partial success.

Good to hear.

FliGi7 maybe on to something. Has anyone besides yourself used the machine?

Or the Windows Event Log may be corrupted. A repair install may be in order. There is a tutorial on this forum that will tell you how. If you do, backup your data.

Nobody else uses the machine.

Looking at the dependencies for that service I see Task Scheduler, Event Collector and Norton Ghost are dependent. So I guess it's possible it is one of those rather than the event log service.
