I have some queries that i want to ask

1) I used Vista basic and now i am using Win 7 Ultimate.
I find Vista Basic way better than this. Vista Basic was faster for me and gave me a better passmark score than this 7 Ultimate.

Passmark score

Vista Basic - 530
7 Score - 463

Windows Experience Score

Vista Basic - 4.0
7 Score - 3.9

:(

My vista score for Windows Aero was - 4.2
and in 7 it is - 3.9

My vista score for Processor was - 4.8
and in 7 it is - 4.1

Why is 7 not performing better, as everyone claims it is lighter and performs :|

The scores did get changed considerably from Vista to Windows 7. In Vista, it capped at 5.9, and in 7 it now caps at 7.9. Several things could be contributing to your lower score.

First, you may need to insure you are using all the latest drivers for your machine.. Manufacturers tweak their drivers with each release of Windows, and it’s possible one of your PC’s parts is still using a beta driver. When a newer driver arrives that’s optimized for Windows 7, your PC might earn a higher score.

Second, the fact that your machine is a laptop, may contribute to the lower score..Your PC may be top-of-the line, but it’s a laptop, and laptops can never compete with top-of-the-line PCs. Today’s more powerful desktop PCs might have nudged your laptop out of the top ranks and into a slightly lower ranking.

Microsoft designed the experience index to change over time as new hardware gets released. What was ranked high before in Vista, may not retain the same rating in 7. I would not necessarily use this as a sign your machine is running slower in 7. How does the OS feel to you? On all of the older laptops I have installed 7 on, I noticed a distinct performance improvement, especially in the area of just general navigation. The OS has proved to be far more snappy then it's predecessor.. Hope this helps..

Thank you for your reply.
Yes everything you said was right.
But As i told you my configuration
It was kinda eqivelent to my friends laptop which is
Core 2 Duo 1.8Ghz 2mb L2 Cache
2GB RAM DDR II
256MB Nvidia 8400MGS
160GB HDD 7400PRM

This laptop has a base score of 5.2 and mine is 3.9
In Vista i had base score of 4.0 and this laptop had 3.9.
So why the performance drop?
I cant seem to understand

My Passmark score for Vista was 540 and in 7 it is 460. :(
I compared both my passmark scores and saw that my 2D Graphics score in Vista was 360 and in 7 is dropped down to 155.
Which is related to Processor (2D Graphics)
So, I downloaded the set of drivers offered by the HP site downloaded them and installed them.
Refreshed the score still no change.
I think there is some problem, Where i cant seem to figure out :|

Please help

It seems driver related to me, but I could be wrong. Have you ran Windows update, and if so, did it detect any hardware drivers to install? IT may also be advise-able to download graphics driver straight from the ATI website as opposed to the HP website..

How does your machine perform? Does it seem slower with 7, or faster... Also, under the experience index, what does it mention under tips for improving your performance..?

Usually when you're booting the computer the startup screen will show a key for entering the Setup (also called the BIOS or CMOS). There isn't a specific setting that I think would be causing the problem, but I would look at the settings that effect video memory, and ram/processor speed. Often they are on "Auto" by default, but check it out. Also, I would agree with musiclover7 regarding downloading a video driver directly from ATI. The latest driver versions are being tweaked for Windows 7 and they may not be offered yet by HP or Windows Update.

I too had a drop in performance from 3.5 in Vista to 3.1 in Windows 7 Ultimate.
So far Dell has nothing specific (drivers, bios) for Windows 7.
As far as I can tell there is no difference in performance. Still a bit discouraging that I would get a lower rating after an upgrade.

For the OP

When you installed Windows 7, did you use the HP install CD's to load your old software OR did you download all of the current/latest software, drivers, firmware & patches from the HP Support website and install THOSE instead?

I run a Dell Inspiron that's 2 years old and came with Vista Ultimate. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate, have a lower WEI Score (which bears no real benchmark legitimacy) and this PC runs WAY FASTER then it ever did before! EVER.
