Win 7 file manager culture shock.

I probably won't be the first person to complain about this, but having been using file managers since the days of the 'Ol Speccy and Atari STe's, I much prefer to see the 'traditional' system, and furthermore it annoys me that MS has the arrogance to 'force' me and other people to use their new system, without even offering users the option of still being able to use the 'old-fashioned' layout. I much the prefer the devil I know, to the devil I don't. Maybe I will get used to it, but does anyone know a really good 'Traditional' (and bullet-proof!) file manager that I can install?

Can we take it you just upgraded to win 7 from say xp? If you think this is bad take a look at win 8 and "metro"

Actually, for Vista! I sometimes wonder if MS, having taken in their latest batch of Uni graduates, tell them, "Ok, lets see what brilliant ideas you have" ... Unfortunately the Geeks shout loudest, whilst those who are just plain sensible, keep quiet. They don't seem to be getting the calibre of programmers that inhabited Xerox Parc!

There are a many file managers out there and as to what is a really good 'Traditional' one well that depends on your definition of good and what you want like dual pane or folder tabs? What problems are you having with Windows 7's? Maybe all you need are a few little tweaks.

I could suggest looking at Explorer++ or there's Classic Shell which will bring some of XP's style back to Windows 7's.
With Classic Shell you don't need to install the Classic Start Menu or the IE stuff either.

I switch back and forth between Win XP and Win 7 computers thruout my work day and much prefer Windows Explorer in 7 over the one in XP. I love that the various folders in the Address bar in Win 7 are "live" in that I can just click on them to move up the directory structure and that if I click on the arrowheads in the address bar I get dropdowns that help me navigate within folders. Other than these great features, what is it that you don't like?

You moved from Vista to Windows 7 and you think things have vastly changed? What has changed so much in explorer that you don't want to use it anymore?

Xplorer2 is one of the best alternative windows explorer by Nikos, whom I am a fan since the days of 2xplorer. It has most of the goodies a person can hope for. There is also lite version which you can download for free and use.

I like Windows 7 ... however, I wished they also support the older interface. Why not? I don't know ... do try ClassicShell to at least get the "UP" button back!

Why would anyone miss the up button? In Win 7 with 1 click you can go up 1 level or 6, your choice.
