Hi guys, we need some help here with a fresh installation. My friends laptop hard drive died and he had no backup disks of the recovery partition. We thought this shouldn't be an issue because a Win7 Home Premium ISO was available on the Internet, but we were wrong.

We made the installation using the key from the sticker underneath and all was fine until we reached activation. We phoned in to activate over the phone and when the last digits were provided we were asked (I can't remember exactly now) if this was a "MAC installation?", sounds ridiculous now but that's how I remember it. Anyway, we chose option 2, to say no and we were being redirected to further support though as we were unsure, we disconnected.

Come to think of it now, I need to try phone verification once more and see what happens, it's a bit late now though and I will have to do it tomorrow.

I decided to still create this thread as the issue may be with the actual laptop. The thing is, it's a Dell that was bought in Poland with a Polish Win7 setup. If we can't get the phone verification to go through (we're in the UK) then what should we do? I've looked around but can't seem to find any ISO for the Polish version of Windows 7.

Any ideas? Thank you.

You are probably right. The Polish version may have a 'national' key. I would call Microsoft and explain the case.

The installation type they were talking about was MAK - Multiple Activation Key - which is a Volume license not available to the public.

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

[edit] So far as I know Key are language independent - so that part at least is irrelevant :) [/edit]

Hi guys, so this is a funny one because today I called up the automatic activation again and everything went through smoothly. I called up, entered the numbers as per the computer screen and no questions no nothing, just a successful confirmation. My friend can now start using his computer properly. Thanks for the help and hope it wasn't a hassle.

Please post a new MGADiag report so we can see what's happened - something somewhere has changed dramatically.
