Win 7 HP hangs on startup with Wacom tablet

I have an HP laptop with Win 7 Home Premium.
When I boot with my new Wacom Intuos3 tablet plugged in (USB), the system hangs after the Windows logo loads. (Dark blue screen). I have to do a hard reset to get the computer to restart.
Windows boots fine with the tablet UNPLUGGED. The tablet works if plugged in AFTER Windows is loaded.
I have tried all the available drivers for this tablet. Changing the drivers didn't affect the function of the tablet or eliminate the hangup at boot.
Wacom says the issue is not with their driver, but with how Windows is loading the services.
I have turned off "tablet pc input" in Services; "Wacom tablet service" is turned on. (Wacom tech didn't think these services conflicted but some had posted the suggestion to turn windows tablet pc service off.)
Although I can use my tablet, it's a real pain to have to unplug at each reboot.
Any ideas?

I had the same problem as this with an old scanner. The only way I could resolve the issue was just by leaving the scanner switched off until after the PC started

Here you go folks - try this

It seems the tablet service fails just after startup.

Open services (control panel/administrative tools) double click on the tabletpenservice and go to the recovery tab,
then the first failure tab just below and select restart service from the drop down menu,
Then 'apply' and restart your pc. :p
If it's hanging @/preventing 'puta startup
Try 'startup type' on "Automatic-delayed" as in above Services 'menu'
Might work!

Win & HP hangs on startup with Wacom tablet

Thanks for the suggestions. I changed the Wacom tablet service to auto-delay and to restart at first failure.
The system hung again, until I unplugged the tablet.
I installed the tablet on another Win7 HP computer, and there was no problem. However, that computer is not mine, and the differences in installed programs too huge for comparison.
Any other ideas?

Turn off computer.

Pull mains lead right out of laptop/computer psu.

Pull all usb leads/receivers out except mouse/keyboard
Pull laptop battery off.

Leave without a power source for two minutes

Reinstall Laptop Battery
Plug PSU back into mains

USB will get redetected when you have logged in and start plugging leads back in.

Wait a few minutes till your PC has finished loading all its stuff at start-up, then start plugging usb leads back in slowly, one at a time, whilst system detects and reloads usb drivers.

Reboot.

I've got an ancient Wacom A4 tablet (circa 1994) and most problems just required completely uninstalling the driver then reinstalling.

Another thing is, your motherboard Bios, reset it to 'defaults', some have weird settings (in the menus) you can adjust for USB.

Can't remember what they do from memory. Check the Bios setting of the other pc if - it's the same model.
Is your Bios right up to date?

Another idea, look thru the "hardware boot sequence" in the bios.
'Disable' everything, except the hard drive you boot Windows from!

I really appreciate your reply. Please forgive, but by "leads" do you mean cords? If so what is the "mains lead"? Is that the main power cord? (is this a case of "two nations separated by a common language"? :D) If so, be patient "whilst" I translate. ;) (I'm an Anglophile American)
How do I access the Bios to reset? Is that done by booting into bios? Or can I access it after Win 7 is loaded?
And your final suggestion to disable everything except the main drive (in bios)---I take it this is a temporary troubleshooting step?

I'm a savvy user, not a pro. Please be patient with my ignorance!

We call underwear - 'pants'
'Trunks' - are also another word for underwear!
A 'hood' is a local burglar/thief - not a car 'bonnet'!
If you blurted out in a pub(bar), the Americanism, "Thats Sick" - most English people would be looking down at the carpet to avoid a pile of 'barf'
So don't go there! :D

Yes pull the mains 'electrical' power cord/lead out
RE the bios normally you press 'del' key when the screen asks you to.
Dell/HP/Acer etc all have different bios access keys (such as F2, F5 etc) or combinations of keys - which you can easily find by doing a bit of websearch.

One of the others here might tell you correct key/s for bios access on HP laptops

Once in there, many OEM manufacturers have "hidden" 'advanced' menus in the bios which can be accessed with yet another combination of keys (such as 'Control' + 'F1')

Win 7 Home Prem hangs with Wacom Tablet plugged in

"Hood" has the same meaning in the States (of 'hoodlum", criminal), but "boots" go on your feet in winter. Doncha love English?

I had uninstalled & reinstalled four different drivers without any resolution. I followed the steps you listed to the letter:

Turn off computer.
Pull mains lead right out of laptop/computer psu.
Pull all usb leads/receivers out except mouse/keyboard
Pull laptop battery off.
Leave without a power source for two minutes
Reinstall Laptop Battery
Plug PSU back into mains
Wait a few minutes till your PC has finished loading all its stuff at start-up, then start plugging usb leads back in slowly, one at a time, whilst system detects and reloads usb drivers.
Reboot.

This time the Windows logo didn't even come up! Just the dark blue screen.

Then I reset the Bios to factory settings as directed. Booted fine until I plugged in the tablet, then hung after Windows logo.

I enabled boot logging & restarted WITHOUT the tablet. I wanted to enable boot logging WITH the tablet plugged in and compare. BUT, with the tablet plugged in the computer would not let me boot to BIOS!!! Is there a clue in that? So I can't compare the boot logs...

I am afraid to mess with updating my bios. I don't have the skill level for that.

Any other ideas welcome!

Switch "tablet pc input" in Services back on - coz it doesn't seem to be your problem!
Put your services 'tab' stuff that we tried, back to normal too!
reboot

You haven't messed with any other services have you?

This could be obvious but motherboards have different speed usb connectors - no idea what yours has as you haven't filled in complete computer specs.

Are you plugged into a High speed USB 2.0 or 3.0 socket? (not 1.1)

Just wondering if the laptop can't supply enough power to boot with the tablet plugged in USB, as it draws all its power down the usb connector I presume (mine has separate mains power connector)

Just wondering if you can borrow a (mains electric powered) multi socket USB 2.0 Hub off a friend - see if that could be a solution.

You still haven't filled in your full Computer specs so I can't look anything much up either

"I installed the tablet on another Win7 HP computer, and there was no problem"
Woz this a laptop or proper PC?

RESOLVED: Win 7 HP hangs on startup with Wacom tablet

Nothing fixed this problem until Wacom released this driver, 6.1.6-5.
I can now boot up with the tablet plugged in.
