Here's the start of problems,i can not connect to the internet called cable provider an the tech. straithened me out about several things i interpreting wrong (did not need proxy server, made sure i got automatic ISP upgrades.
Still could not hook up to web sites, bought add on Ethernet card still no connection was told i may have a bad chip for internet connection.
Then i really lost it and thought if i re-installed WIN7 that might straighten things out boy was i wrong with that thinking as t thought there was some installed help on disk that did not even show up went right pass it and it really got bad when after paying over $107.00 for a legitimate copy of WIN 7 down in the lower right hand corner there was notification that my copy i had was not a legitimate copy of WIN7 AND this PC is hard wired to a COMCAST router with cat5 cables as is this PC that i using right now, sorry about long post.:(

What does Device Manager look like? Are there any yellow marks indicating driver problems, especially for Network Adapter?

Click on Start then Run or press Window key (next to left Ctrl key) +R and paste the following into the Run box, exactly as shown, including double quotes:

cmd /c "ipconfig /all > postme.txt & ping yahoo.com >> postme.txt & reg query "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" >> postme.txt & notepad postme.txt & del postme.txt"

and press ENTER.

A file will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste the contents here. Close the Notepad window and the file will be deleted and the Command Prompt window will also close.

If you don't have a Run selection off the Start menu, see here: Enable Run Command on Windows 7 or Vista Start Menu, or How to access the 'Run' box in Windows® 8.1 - YouTube or just press Windows Key (next to the left Ctrl key) + R, or open the Modern desktop, type run then click on Run that appears.

no internet connection

HI,Ztrucker,The problem i am having is not on this PC as i am using my sons PC i can not connect to the internet on my PC ITS AS IF THERE IS A firewall keeping me from getting out to the internet as it shows a big red "x" from my PC to the internet.
Found out from one of the COMCAST TECHS that they use automatic IPS connections and no proxy servers.
I got the public to work/home connection changed from public to work/home,i got the floppy disk noticed removed so now i do not get that anymore just have to figure out why i am blocked from connecting to the internet.

Look over these steps which compile a perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7 to compare the one you did. The non-genuine error you got could be an anomaly. What's most important is that you take the time to do the install carefully, particularly how drivers are handled in the first driver-complete OS. If in doubt start over and delete all partitions during the booted install, follow each step carefully. Ask back if you have any questions and keep us posted as you go.
