I am running Win7 64bit.

I have two DVD drives "D" and "F" both connected by Sata to the motherboard (Asus MA78 Pro).

"D" is fine. "F" disappears! Not shown in "Computer" or "Control panel"

I have tried all the registry hacks I can find, together with all other advice from the 'web, to no avail.

If I open the case, unplug and reconnect the power cable, Win 7 will immediately recognise the drive and install the drivers. All is fine for a few days before "F" vanishes again. No alteration to the computer is done during this time.

Win7 is running perfectly but this is driving me mad.

Any ideas, suggestions or flashes of inspiration will be most gratefully received.

Thank you.

Not as fast as it should be......
If possible, swap the power cables between the drives D and F. If D suddenly starts acting the same way, you may have a power supply that's experiencing issues.

If the behavior stays with the same drive, then you could look for a firmware update for it, or think about replacing it.

Well, I'll be damned!!

Swapping power leads appears to have worked and both DVD drives are showing up.

Thank you again DeaconFrost.

I'll leave this thread open for a couple of weeks to see if things continue to work properly.
