Hello there:

I have just recently experienced a logon failure to one of my 2 Win7 systems.
I have both a 32bit & a 64 bit system side by side.
I've lost the ability to logon to the 64 bit op/sys.
The boot files are still intact, both op/sys will properly boot but the 64 fails to logon.
All I get is the black logon screen with not actual attempt to logon. The mouse function is still intact.
Where in the root folder would I find the ini files that contain the logon protocol to get the desktop back up?

This has happened twice to me in the last 2 weeks, After replacing the op/sys the 1st time the rebuilt system has just done it to me again. The 32 bit system is unharmed. From within the 32 system I can navigate thru the 64 system files.

thx

Don't believe the issue is an MBR situation, the boot files are in the hidden partition at front of C drive. The boot files for both op/sys are still accurate. I make use of EasyBCD to edit the description where both systems visually appear when listing in the boot manager window.

The graphics drivers for 64 are functioning, display is still 1080p, no revert back to default 800x600.

well, after 4 days of looking at solutions I came across two issues that were getting in my way....
I make use of a wireless keyboard, I did not realize that until this issue came up that non of the *function* keys were working when in the boot manager page. Because of this I could not manually bring up the alternative boot options, *safe mode, last known good configuration* etc etc. Sorted that out with an old serial port keyboard, still no joy when the boot manager now presented all possible boot configurations.

Second issue was that my install disc was missing the *repair computer* option, non of it there at all, this was a disc supplied to me by the commercial IT outlet where I purchase various parts. Acquiring a good disc allowed me to get into the repair mode & in there I found that the MBR had somehow been corrupted by the last program that the Win7 uninstall program removed from the system (this took place the morning that the issue showed itself). The record revealed 5 removal entries that just didn't look right. I rolled back the boot record to the last backup before that program was installed and the system all came back.

Quite happy that the op/sys was not lost, my entire system is customized, even the backup that was made could not recover the boot situation.
