When I click on shared main folders, they will open on the LAN.

When I click on ANY subfolder under a share, I will not open.

It says I dont have permission to view the contents.

So when I go into win7 security settings for the folder, inheritance is checked, but

"Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" is not checked.
If I try to check that, I get an access is denied error.
So what do I need to do ? I dont want to have to manually do settings for every single subfolder.

first picture shows win7 error message where I tried to click and apply that setting.
second and third pic show view from an ubuntu PC

Sounds like you have been messing around in the security section already and changed something you should have.
Because of the way Win 7 sets up Junction point for some folder, which aren't really folders, changing the Child Object settings on those can and WILL FUBAR the system.

Sorry I have no suggestions for your present problem. Basically if you set permissions on a top level folder to allow full access every file and sub-folder under that top level folder will inherit those permissions. Something has gone wrong with that system on your computer.

Few minutes ago, someone suggested logging in as an admin to modify the setting.
So I did and can select and apply that other check mark without an error.
However when hitting apply, the check mark becomes unchecked.

As far as fubar the system, do you mean just that folder?

I can open 'user/Public' folders just fine on the Lan, just cant open subfolders on the drive.

Ok, did a test and it works on opening subfolders.
I log in as admin

I created a new folder sharetest1
Then a subfolder sharetest2
then put a text file

Then I told folder sharetest1 to be shared
Added 'Everyone'

and I can open it from the ubuntu PC on the LAN

So something about the 'video' folder is not right.

Ok I logged out and back as scott

Did the same thing with a folder called it share1 then folder share2, put in text files

And can open on the LAN ok.

Ok, copied the folder called Video_TS into share2 and I can open on the LAN, so I can just get rid of the defective folder and make a new one.

I marked as solved as I can now make something work. But what weird thing happened to 'video' folder?
