I have solved the Windows 7 not waking up problem in a non technical fashion on my ACER lsaptop by merely leaving open a Microsoft Office programme before closing the lid: this works for me and is easily tried

Currently on accessing the America Megatrends bios under Power the drop down menu indicates against Suspense mode - S3 only followed by ACPI support

I can just imagine a random pop up coming up on screen saying things like:

"Donate $100 to Bill Gates' drinking fund or this computer will self destruct in 12 seconds"

"To boot or not to boot - that is the question!"
etc
