Win 7 SP1 Installation Error Code 800736B3

Hi,

Win 7 SP1 fails installation with Error Code 800736B3.

I have tried a the solutions as suggested by microsoft without luck. I also re-installed Win 7 Ultimate (using the Upgrade option), but the situation is unchanged.

According to the log of CheckSUR there is 1 CSI missing identity and 2 CSI Payload files missing.

The interesting thing about that is that although it says it's repairing 4 components, I can only see three attempted repairs - one of which succeeded.

I'll post a fix protocol for the others in a few minutes.

Hmmm - an oddity...
The CheckSUR file refers to a missing payload file - from the RTM install of Windows 7 using the Argentine language (ar-sa).
This file is going to be very difficult for me to source reliably - do you have the original disk, or access to another machine with the Argentine language installed?

I have original disk. I think ar-sa is an arabic language pack!

I've uploaded a file - erwaa.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)
Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.
Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
At the prompt type
DIR C:\erwaa
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
DIR D:\erwaa
or
DIR E:\iukaa

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

XCOPY <drive>:\erwaa <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

(e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time)and when the prompt returns, type
EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.
Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your reply

Then run CheckSUR again, and post the new CheckSUR.log file - hopefully we will then be able to address the registry error it shows.

Ooops! - you're probably right about the language pack!
I'll see what I can do about it, as it may make things worse if you attempt to uninstall the package while it's corrupted.

Great - that seems to have fixed all the file problems now, so we can work on the remaining registry problem.

Please open an elevated Command prompt, and run the following commands

REG LOAD HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS
REG QUERY HKLM\components\CanonicalData\Deployments\prnxx002.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_5ad632810fefc3dc
REG UNLOAD HKLM COMPONENTS

Here are some instructions to make life easier
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.
