Win 7 Ultimate "Configuring Windows Updates" stalled at 15%?

HI,

My Dell auto downloaded 88 updates yesterday AM when i shut down my pc. On reboot, it started configuring the updates but stalled at 16%, i left it for about 8 hrs and it never moved from the 16%. I forced shut down the PC, but again on restart, it started the Configuring updates and says, "Do not turn off your computer". Its now been at 15% for over 14 hrs? I'm not sure to shut down again as it might start this process again on restart or let it go for another 24 hrs? Is this normal or is there an issue with the configuring of the updates.

In normal situation, this happen if the download &or updating is interrupted.

You need to do this:

For Windows upon doing Updates, it will create a system restore point, before updating.

You have to select an earlier updates by checking the date/time.

Once system restore is completed, restart the computer.

There are 2 options for doing Windows Updates.

1. Do windows updates manually.

2. Let the windows update automatically.
At the Windows Update, on the left panel select & click on "Change settings"
For me, i chose "Install updates automatically (recommended)"
For schedule, i select "Daily"; and time "3.00AM". Do note that this is the time your computer is turn ON.
2.1. For this; meaning, the downloading is doing while you are using the computer, from 3.00am
The timing daily/weekly, and the time is up to you to decide at the time your computer is turn ON.


If the Shutdown show Update is available, DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR PC; leave it overnight is alright.

You need to turn on the computer after it had completed updated, and wait for the process, and let it do on its own; so DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR PC.
As to ensure the Important updates is done properly, leave the computer alone, not to use it.

You need to have your computer using the main power adapter.


These are some of the options, it may not be necessary.
Btw, if your HDD is having problem, do some anti-virus scan, such as Superantispyware.
Also you may need "chkdsk" your HDD by go to "cmd" -> like DOS mode, optional.
