Win 7 Ultimate x64 help...

I was using win 7 ultimate x64 up and until now..
A week ago I experienced my first problem..
I shut down my laptop and again switched it on after a few hours..
To my surprise, boot time shot up from 45secs to 2 min and even after booting up it was non responsive and took around a min to open "my computer" :x :x
Then I used system restore and everything was fine for a week..

Suddenly yesterday the same problem cropped up.(There weren't any restore points). So I finally decided to format my hard disk. Installation was fine in the beggining and files were expanded successfully (100%) and when it came to the "finishing installation" part, setup stopped proceeding further and didn't even reboot. After waiting for a long time, I exited the setup and started the installation. This time at 30% of expanding files it said "required installation files could not be found. Please try re-installing windows by inserting the correct disk". So i tried once again and the same thing happened.

I tried system diagnostics to check for any hardware problems but everything was fine.
The DVD i used was perfectly working until last week and I don't think it would fail suddenly.
As far as viruses are concerned, I had Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 installed with all the recent updates so a virus attack is very unlikely.

Finally today when I tried installing again, setup asked for time zone and language, but didn't proceed further from there and hung up.

Kindly help me regarding this. I use my laptop very frequently so I badly need it. Could it be a hardware problem, a virus attack or a problem with the disk??

My laptop config:

Intel Dual core @ 2.2Ghz
4 gb Ram
320 gb HD
(its a dell inspiron 1545)

Thanks in advance.

Hello vatsan, welcome to Seven Forums!

This would be the first thing to try as it solves about half of these issues, have a look at the info below.

   Information

After you have made backups of everything you care to save and you want to do a real wipe "secure erase" to the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) have a look at this tutorial at the link below, it over-writes everything, all the old Windows code including the old Windows drivers, everything all data, giving you the best possible space to install Windows 7 to; it goes hand-in-hand with a clean install.

Thanks for your reply.
I went through that post you linked..

But actually when I ran diagnostics, it said "no internal hard disk is present"..

Does this mean my hard disk crashed???

Cos once it happened to my desktop also but I removed and again re-inserted the connectors from the hard disk inside my cpu and it worked then..
