Win 7 upgrade and sound issues

Kind of a noob here

but i upgraded from win vista 64 to win 7 64 and everything seems to work just fine but i have no sound! been looking for a compatible driver on the gateway site but no go on that

im running a gateway p6860FX. and like i said im kind of a noob at this so i dont know how to retrieve any additional info that you guys would ask me.

but i also know that this is a common issue and some people have fixed it, been trying alot of things and none are working, so any help would be lovely...

Hi Upa and welcome to the forums..
Open your volume mixer by right clicking on the speaker icon in your taskbar and make sure that you have speakers selected as your default playback device.. Use the test function to make sure that your speakers are working..if that fails, then goto your device manager, does the entry for sound controllers have a yellow triangle over it??

Try this link for some chipset drivers. Your laptop model was included on the list.
Chipset Driver version: 8.2.0.1014 You may need to install in compatibility mode
