I thought for a change from all the bad things being said that we could have a place where people can tell us what hardware setups work great with Windows 7 RC.

I have RC installed in a HP Mini 1035NR and from what I can tell everything works great.

Software I use:
Firefox 3.0.10
yahoo messenger newest
Sure thing CD labeler
ConvertXtoDVD
Windows Live Mail
Bejeweled 2
utorrent
Google Earth
Java
Quicktime

I keep most softare updated. I use a 2GB SD card as a readyboost drive. I also watch a lot of movies with media player and have not installed any codec for any. Well can't think of any other things to say but that I love windows 7 and thats a big thing from a me.

As for my two or three years old home built machine:

MB: MSI
CPU: Core2 2.6 GHz
Memory: 4 GBs
Video: ATI Radeon x1950 512 GBs memory
HDD: 4x320 GBs SATA II
Network card: Realtek RTL8168B/8111B Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC
Sound card: I have one, I really do...
Software: MS Office 2007, Firefox, Java, but I am not done yet...

WPI rating: 5.8 (HDD score being the lowest)

All in all, with one minor issue at installation, Windows 7 64-bit seems faster that Vista 64-bit on the same box. The graphic is definitely nicer and peppier...

Nice to know utorrent has a place in your heart. Enjoy your stay around here

You are right in the fact there has been a lot of negativity around these parts lately. As a general home user myself (I also game) I too am enjoying using windows 7 and have non of the problems that are being reported. It is of my opinion that half of these problems are user generated but its just so much easier blaming Windows. I'm not a windows fan boy at all but think this is a great os.

Good score you got there aswell:D

By the way chaps if you go into usercp at the top of your page, you can fill out your system details etc etc then you can check them out underneath your name.

+1 My computer works as it should.

System specs below. I've installed the RC 4-5 times now. I've been experimenting with different applications and settings and keeping notes. Once I have a good base of applications that I want to regularly use, I make my final build using ONLY those programs.

For now, I'm installing anything I want to try, just to see how well it works. Knowing I'll wipe again in a day or two is liberating. ;)

So far, I haven't found much that doesn't work with W7x64 and once I do my next build, it will be setup with only the programs I want. I like a 0-uninstall policy.

Thanks, wasn't the way I wanted to retire but me and my wife will be finishing up our surgeries and buying an RV and visiting all the great places in this country. It was a long 5 years and who knows I might work with DHS again next year when I get bored unless I find some cool Tech company to work for.

On another note I will be getting an Alienware M17 for my RV machine can't wait to see how 7 works on a mega laptop.

wiped my vista 64, Ubuntu 9.04, and Win 7 beta partitions. I am all in with RC and only keeping Xp for just in case. I like it so much it will likely be the only OS I regularly use. Sorry ubuntu old friend but like Win 7 - RC that much. It does it all for me and is secure enough when using care. And game perfromance is back to where it needs to be to say good by to xp
