I have an old database program made for W95 on a floppy disk. I copied the files to a flash drive and tried to install it from there. I've tried installing it as a Windows XP program but it doesn't work. It used to work with WXP. Is there any way i can get it to work? :(

Is this a 16 or 32 bit program you are trying to install?
Is Windows 7 32 or 64 bit?
What if any error messages are you receiving?

You will not be able to install a 16 bit application on a 64 bit OS.

Yes, I am trying to install on a 64 bit computer. That must be the problem. Is there a way around this?

Did you zip all the files and folders to 1 file? So you have something like: Somefilename.ZIP ? Maybe you don't see the extension(?) But it is a "compressed file".

You can upload it.... see other post

What I have is a folder like "ISW3 setup Files.ZIP". I can't upload this folder. The tutorial is clear enough. I just don't know how to put my files inside a *.ZIP file.

Drag the files and folder and drop them on the ZIP

Assume the setup.exe was running successfully. What should the setup do? Should it ask where to install? It's an ms dos program isn't it?

Why not:
  1. Make a bootable ms dos usb stick (make it FAT32). http://forums.pcper.com/showthread....ve-how-do-I-boot-DOS-from-a-USB-Memory-device!!
  2. Put the files to install the program on the usb stick. simply: Copy files from floppy disk to usb flash.
  3. Boot from it and run SETUP.EXE.
  4. If it asks where to install, respond with a folder on that USB stick. Your internal disks is NTFS and DOS cannot access NTFS.
You do understand?

Pretty clear!! In other words, I'll have to run it from the USB stick, yes?

It's an MS-DOS 16bits program. Win7 64bits runs only 32 and 64 bits programs.
So run it from ms dos. A usb stick can be made bootable ms dos.

Please see my new message. I booted from the flash stick OK. My program files came from my Workstation which is 64 bit W7 Professional and I copied them to the flash stick. Then I typed setup.exe - but when I pressed the Enter key, this is what I got: C:/WIN setup.exe. I don't know where the "WIN" came from - but the command won't execute. I got a message but, unfortunately, didn't write it down. Can you help me or should I get the text of that message and send t to you? I used a utility called Rufus to create the bootable flash drive with DOS. The instructions were much easier to follow than the first site. I don't know how to tell if the program is DOS. I think it is Windows 95.
