Hi,

Thanks for opening this thread. I'll start by saying I know very little about computers; any advice written in a way which accomodates my lack of technical knowledge would be much appreciated.

I recently bought a new desktop with Win7 32bit installed. The system came bundled with a Getnet GN-531u wireless adaptor, but the setup wizard claimed not to support the OS. After a bit of fiddling I managed to run the Vista wizard and everything seemed to be going smoothly. It found my wireless network and prompted me to input my network key (I use WPA-PSK if it's of any relevence). Anyway when I type in my key it says something like "blah blah only supports WEP, WPA-PSK (and something else) authentication" and subsequently won't connect.

The network settings icon in the task bar will also excitedly announce that my wireless network has been found, ask me for my network key, and...well, obviously that doesn't work either. It doesn't reject the key as incorrect, it just says it failed to connect and the troubleshooting process thereafter is predictably useless. FWIW, Windows is telling me that "this device (GN-531u) is working properly" and when I try to update drivers it just tells me I'm up to date.

Any ideas?

I've read a review of the adapter elsewhere in which the reviewer claims to have configured his GN-531u to work with Win7, so it should at least be compatible. I'm obviously just doing something wrong. Any help would be hugely apprecaited.

Cheers,

JK

I would change your network encryption and disable your ipv6.

For the encryption, start at wep and see if it allows you to connect at least.

Disable ipv6 through your adapter settings... simply uncheck ipv6 and click ok.

Hi and welcome to the forums

Is it possible for you to give us the make and model of your router.

Thanks Pal

Pssst... Brady pal he said he isn't too comfortable with the advanced technical terms, I think we need to explain in a more easy to understand way, maybe with some screen shots or something. Dunno just a thought ;)
