Win7 64 bit clean install error. unable to create system partition.

Hi,
I had 32 bit win7 home premium provided by OEM. Recently I purchased win7 professional 64 bit in order to increase my memory.(My system is 64 bit capable) I followed [1]. I am using USB for installation. I booted the system with USB. Then at disk manager I deleted all the partitions(including recovery ) Then I refreshed and click next and I got an error saying setup unable to create system partition. I also tried diskpart clean. Still no hope. So I am stuck with a formated laptop. Want to get this working soon. Can anyone of you kindly enlighten me on this issue.

Where did you get the Win 7 that you want to install?

I strongly suspect a bad Win 7 or a hacked Win 7 as the cause.

its an original copy downloaded from Microsoft. But the setup was there for about 4 months in my HDD. Can this happen if the setup is corrupted?

I am an engineering undergraduate. So university offered us with windows 7 professional.

Suggest you talk to your university about getting another copy of Win 7 since yours appears to be defective.

Ok. I'll check with them. Thanks for the support. Is there any chance that this is happening coz of a fault in my HDD? fault in MBR or something.

I have no earthly idea why the win 7 install file is corrupt.

I followed various forums, tried various methods. but nothing is working for me. wasted more than 5-6 hours. Now I'll first check if win7 setup is ok.

Is there a chance the ISO you downloaded is corrupt? Try downloading it again from this site:

And then burning it at no more than 4x speed to a DVD for installation using this tool:

installing 64bit wont increase memory. 64bit will make a 32bit system run slower. go back to 32bit. to install 64bit you'll need to reflash bios for 64bit. its been flashed for 32bit and windows prefer to use 32bit.

If you have more than 4gb RAM then 64 bit will allow you to utilize it whereas 32 bit will not. There is also some RAM reserved by hardware which can be observed in a chart on Memory tab of Resource Monitor.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals.

After confirming your ISO and writing to stick using Step 1 and 2 in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7, try wiping the HD using Diskpart Clean Command from installer Command Line accessed by pressing Shift + F10 at first screen when booted.

If this fails, wipe again and then create an NTFS Primary partition marked Active from Step 2.2 in SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation.

Test your HD with maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan followed by Disk Check run from installer Command Line on the full disk partition you made.

Try removing all but 2gb RAM to try install. Test your RAM - Test with Memtest86+ for 5-6 passes.

Report back results as there will be other steps if required.

i installed a 64bit on my 32bit system, i have 3gb ram, on 64bit it ran slower started up slower then having the 32bit installed. wei was had a 1.5 rating, to where as the 32bit has a 3.1 rating. i have a AMD Athlon 64 thats 64 bit capable.
my system uses 25% of the 3gb, theres 2.75 gb left for my use and i only use at most 42% of the 2.75gb. as at this moment im using 34% of ram 20% of cpu.

This is why I advise to use 64 bit only with 4gb RAM or more, since some is also reserved for hardware. Others say 64 bit runs fine on 4gb RAM. Your mileage may vary.

Eggsackly. I run Win7 32 bit on 1gb fast without ever hanging on an old HP 510 lappy, and an eMachine desktop with 2gb RAM.

My direct experience with less ram is that:
4 GB or more is highly desirable. Better and in a couple of cases, far better performance.

Better performance using Win 64 with 4 GB or more ram.

These are my direct experiences, and in one case, on a machine with a really slow processor.

my RAM is 6GB thats why i decided to move to 64bit. Anyway problem solved. There was some fault in the USB drive I used for installation. When I tried with another one it worked. Now the system is running like a baby.
