Win7 connection issues

hi, I installed windows 7 yesterday (dualbooting with XP), now, i left it installing overnight and when i'd finished all final stuff this morning, it won't connect to the internet.
My adapter is definitely working because Win7 is telling me the networks i can connect to, however, when i click on my network and enter the WEP key it says it can't connect. XP still connects to this network without problems so i don't know what it could be.

Try changing the WEP key in your router config to something different and see if you can connect using the new key. I can't say for sure why that worked for me once, but it may work for you as well.

Are you in the same Network Group? if not, change it to the same network and reboot.

If that doesn't do anything, Disable any security in your router to help trouble shoot the problem, once you can connect, use WPA instead of WEP, more secure and less chances of issues (or so I have read in some other sites)

Is the problem with your WIRED or Wireless connection? not that it matters much, just curious.

I seem to be in the same boat as Rtyper. I installed 7 yesterday, and internet connected just fine. This morning however, in the Network and Sharing Center, it says that I'm connected to an unidentified public network, but not the internet. I read that this sometimes happens when the computer puts itself to sleep, and to remedy this I turned sleep off and restart the computer. The same problem occurs. Additionally I've turned off firewalls and changed the filesharing encryption to 40 or 56 bit, but to no avail.

Unlike Rtyper, there is no wireless security set up currently, but everything else seems to be very similar if not the same. Any suggestions would be extremely welcome. And please let me know if you need more information on the problem. I'm somewhat new to the PC world, so feel free to talk down to me'

No need to talk down to you bwiley365 and even though Networking issues are a nightmare for me as well, I am will try to give you some pointers while you wait for the Gurus to chime in.

I see you also Dual Boot with XP, I take it you are not experiencing any problems with it? if so, that would indicate that your NIC cards (either LAN or Wlan/Wi-Fi) are in good working order.

I would try to go to the Nic's manufacturer and get the latest driver anyways, save it on your hdd, uninstall the ones you have right now and install the new ones and hope for the best.

Sometimes your Internet Provider is the culprit and you go crazy trying to figure out what the problem is. Make sure that the problem is on your end and not your Host (Comcast, AT&T, etc etc).

Try disabling the IP6v and only work with the IP4v (properties within the NIC cards). I had a good experience working with OpenDNS but will try this ones if the other 2 options don't work out for you
