Questions:
Is getting Application errors, "Instruction at 0x???? referenced memory at 0x????. The memory could not be read (the ?'s are different values), be a symptom of something failing or purely a software thing?
Can a SSD or HDD go bad but I still be able to see the data in a DOS DIR prompt?
Can memory be bad put pass the windows memory test?

Thank you for your help!

Background:
I have not installed anything recently, however today when I turned on my machine (Win 7 Pro x64 on SSD and programs on 1TB drive) it restarted within seconds and I got the windows restore or start normally message. Neither work. I do have a restore disk that does work but and I have done the memory tests and chkdsk on all drives and find no errors. However when I try a system restore I get an application error within seconds saying memory can not be read.

Hello and welcome JustWork now you say you ran a memory test just to have it right in my mind just what memory test did you use - is it the Windows feature you mention because it is in my mind not worth a second thought and because there is only one we recommend you use http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html and it MUST be at least 8 passes pics to show you what it looks like the version with errors is the wrong one but the screen is the same as the current version.
Now some extra specs mate on the machine please an Asus board could be anything - sorry but it makes working out the problems very hard if we do not know what is inside a machine;)

The drive if it passed chkdsk then I cannot see any reason to think at this moment in time that it has gone bad.
