Well, it can, but only certain drives.. with the My Documents folder for instance, there is no problem. But I can't access the desktop there: I have the Win10 desktop set up for sharing in just the same way as other folders, full permissions and so on. And I have no problem accessing a different (Win7) PC's desktop from the same computer, but nothing I have tried stops that annoying window from popping up when I try to access the desktop on the Win10 PC. (Why on earth do Microsoft continue to think that home users have a 'network administrator' they can contact??).

Any way around this please?

Thanks!

The problem is folders In a user's profile have special permission even on the PC with admin rights you can't simply get to it have you checked NTFS permission It will inherit from above

I have removed all permissions from the C drive and tried again. No matter what I do, I cannot get access to any of the subfolders past 'Users'. Beyond that, I can set up sharing and permissions for my user name, and/or inside that, 'desktop'; and on the remote PC it all looks good. But the main PC still just brings up a notice saying I don't have permission.

folders In a user's profile have special permission

... so how to I beg Microsoft for 'special permission' to access my own PC? If my house had a resident 'System Administrator' and I were able to contact them, as advised, how would they go about solving this for me?

Thanks! :-)

Open C:\Users in Windows Explorer. Click on Organize. Click on Folder and Search Options. In the View tab, enable Show Hidden files and Folders. Apply it to "all subfolders..............." after you click on Apply.
Does that help?
