Win7 Power Supply Not Detected

I'm running my Windows 7 x64 on an Alienware M17x laptop. My computer recently disconnected from it's power supply source to run on battery because the power supply cable unplugged. Immediately, the computer attempted to hibernate because the battery is bad. I then plugged the cable back in and the computer woke back up.

This is where the problem starts. Windows 7 is still acting like it's running on battery power. The icon even shows a Critical Battery icon (not plugged in) and flashes. It's also running VERY slow like my Power Options were turned to Power Saver. However, my cord IS plugged in, my laptop detects it's plugged in (blue light) but Windows isn't picking that up. My Power Options ARE set to High Performance, but it's still running terribly slow. Restarting the computer doesn't fix the issue. Changing between Power Options doesn't help, either.

This HAS happened before, but took a few days before Windows detected a power supply properly and it ran as normal, but that was almost a year ago. Is there any suggestions as to go about fixing this? It's hard to use a gaming laptop when the OS wants to act like it's running on battery instead of a plugged in power source.

Hello,

Try "power-cycling" your computer

Remove battery and AC Adapter, hold the start button for a least 30 seconds.

Restart your computer.

Also, test the voltage output of the AC Adapter.

Make sure your using the correct AC Adapter for your PC.

Buy new battery. eBay has inexpensive replacements.

You should perform a power cycle as suggested johnsmith45jock. However, it could be an issue with DC in port on the system which might require replacement.
