hello all, i'm new to the forums here because i'm having a baffling problem i just can't seem to fix. i recently was using Windows 7 beta and about 2 days ago i switched over and did a clean install of Win7RC. after about a day or 2 of no problems all of a sudden i have an "!" over my network connection and i can't get on the net. I cant even access my router when typing in the IP in the address bar. im currently on my laptop and its working fine. here's what i have done so far.

1. tried uninstalling some programs that i installed after i got win7rc, un installed avira, also disabled windows defender and unplugged my connection and plugged it back in, still no go.
2. restarted my computer,, after doint this the connection was fine, but i went to work and came back and it was having the same trouble again. i just restarted my computer now and it's working fine but im sure it will revert in a few short hours. i cant explain why.
3. i looked for this "bonjour" program people are talking about but couldnt find it, not even too sure where to look, or what it is.

i have a netgear router im using brighthouse.
i went to the cmd and typed in ipconfig /all not sure if this will be any use but
windows IP configuration
IP routing enabled..... no
Wins proxy enabled.....no
node type ... hybrid

theres alot more there, one says ethernet adapter local area connection:
i assume thats what is important here's an interesting note. at one point it says,
Lease Obtained..........." Tuesday, june 23, 2009
Lease expires............: wednesday, june 24, 2009
not sure what this means.
autoconfiguration is enabled

it shows 3 tunnel adapter sections

any help would be appreciated

oh and also, under properties of local area connection, internet protocol v6 and v4 are checked and both are set to obtain address automatically

Hi and welcome to SF

Im hoping this is an easy one. I wonder if you have re-booted the computer and the router.
That should help the lease expires note

Lets try thata first then we can delve into it more

Hope this helps

yes i unplugged my router yesterday for at least 10 seconds, plugged it back in. did the same with the power in the modem. the unidentified message never went away but i never checked the ipconfig, but restarting my computer before work fixed the solution, but when i got back it was back to square 1 for me.

ok i restarted my computer and got net access again, but like yesterday im assuming its going to mess up again, but while i have net access i just went to my device manager and checked for updates for both network adapters that were shown.
one was
marvell yukon 88e8053 pci-e gigabit ethernet controller
and the other wich im pretty sure is the one i have always been using is
realtek rtl8169/8110 family pci gigabit ethernet nic (Ndis 6.20)
the marvel didnt have an update available but the realtek did and i downloaded it, so now i guess only time will tell if that was a solution or not?

Have you looked in event viewer?
It may have either a warning or stop listed. I still have a feeling that this is going to be fairly easy
I have subscribed to this thread so I will get email every post let me know how its going

That first error (1002) is indicating an IP address conflict, meaning (I believe) two or more computers (one of them being the one that is dropping off the network) are attempting to use the same IP address.

As a first shot I would do what I could to make the answers to the following questions "Yes".

  • Is your router acting as a DHCP server for your internal network?
  • Are all your computers on the router accepting dynamically assigned IP addresses?

Ok I searched both event id error on msn and found this
Event ID 1000 and 1001 Repeat Every 5 Minutes in the Event Log
Does your ISP supply dhcp for you? (do you have to logon w/ uid and pword)
when working if you run ipconfig what ip do you get for the computer
It might be a default setting in router.
Other thoughts to come

Hope this is helping

ohhhh kay, this might help you guys alot.
my IP for my computer is .1.2
my gf's laptop that im using is .1.3
my ps3 is .1.50

now the netgear router is what my computer is plugged into and her computer has a wireless card for the router.
now
we setup passwords for the router enabling the SSID because her laptop card is stupid and couldnt find the SSID when it was hidden even though i typed it in there for it to find. so we set up a i believe it is a WEP key the router, i manually inserted that key into her laptop which might explain why she has net on this laptop and i dont, because i downloaded the windows 7 RC days after we setup this WEP key for the computers. im not sure how that would effect my computer tho because im not trying to connect wirelessly.. but it was just a thought

as far as dhcp is concerned, no i dont have to log on with any passwords to get internet access. always been plug n play for me

since my restart i havent had any problems, but i thought that yesterday and when i came home it wasnt working again, with nothing changed other than restarting.
now since restarting i have updated the driver on my realtek tab under device manager, removed my antivir program.
the router itself is a few years old, but i havent really had any problems with it but a few mind boggling situations that me and my friend ultimately realized were fixed by simply updating the router itself through thier website. (one of those simple solutions)

Do you have all four client boxes (your desktop, your lappie, your GF's lappie, and the PS3) on and connected to your router?

If yes, what's the IP for your laptop (see your original post for reference).

Are there any other "clients" attached to your router, for example, a printer server?

realized were fixed by simply updating the router itself through thier website.
I'm guessing this means you've updated the firmware of the router?

inet trouble

since my restart i havent had any problems, but i thought that yesterday and when i came home it wasnt working again, with nothing changed other than restarting.
now since restarting i have updated the driver on my realtek tab under device manager, removed my antivir program.
the router itself is a few years old, but i havent really had any problems with it but a few mind boggling situations that me and my friend ultimately realized were fixed by simply updating the router itself through thier website. (one of those simple solutions)

Do you only loose connectivity when idle? My router is a bit old also so it doesn't like IP6. I get regular errors in event log (more than 2000) but no trouble with connecting. I will keep an eye on this thread but if something pops up PM me. I live on line.
