Win 7 64 bit SP1

About a week or so ago, my Internet Security Comodo IS) refused to start up at bootup. There was no message that I remember.

I tried Comodo's complete cleanup utility, re-downloaded Comodo and installed it. Right at the last second, :( I was told that Comodo had no digital certificate and could not install. Their Secure Shopping and Comodo Dragon were fine.

I checked that Windows firewall was off. I have no other antivirus or Firewall.

I downloaded Zone Alarm and tried to install it. A soon as I clicked the install file (a small one that downloads ZA files) I was told that it had no digital certificate and refused to run.

I then downloaded "free" Total AV. It installed fine.

So. Back to Comodo. I finally ignored the certificate stuff at install and the install _said_ it had gone through. But then Comodo would again not run when I tried Digital Certificate.

So I decided to fire up Windows Defender, but when I did, it wanted to download updated definitions. When it finished it came up with and error message No Certificate....from a _Windows source?

I have several other programmes for running and all seems fine.

Just a comment : IMO TotalAV is "trap ware" "Free" is crippled and exhorts you to take their cheap deals for new users. Start price is in the order of $40 for one year then _automatically ups it to $120 at the end of that year....then to $135/yr at the end of the second year. I hate that stuff.....However.

I think this is due to a needed Windows update or an update that is the cause. It's about the certificate store or some crap. Windows wants to see a program having been digitally signed for security. Comodo should have their own forum. Comodo - Powered by Kayako Help Desk Software

Thanks for the replies.

AFAIK I have not updated Windows. I have it set to not automatically update. I am not even sure that that I can, as Win 7 is not supported any more. I know _why_ a cert is needed, but not why it's suddenly unavailable...for certain software.

This is much wider than a Comodo issue I think, (it now involves at least two security apps and M$oft's own Defender app trying to update its own signature database). But yeah they have their own forum and I have posted a question there.

My date and time are correct and linked to M$oft's own net timer.

Thanks for that, but I have been pointed to a couple of security updates for Win 7 that have allowed me to install the Comodo security app again.

More data downloads I do NOT need. I am on a mobile connection with limited data allowance and I am rapidly running out for the month
