Win7 SP1 released to public

SP1 installed . Still have nothing new noticed(just sit on the pc ) but I can see this in Windows Updates
In important updates is Update for Windows 7 (KB2484033) Download size: 335 KB
In optional Update for Windows 7 (KB2488113) Download size: 157 KB

Should I install both of them?

Those popped up with SP1 yesterday for me and I installed them first with no problems.

I also got this one KB2387530. Recommended.

Maybe with peoples performance notes, it might be worth mentioning if you installed on a fresh install or through Windows Updates on an existing install.

Seems to be a lot of different reports.

I installed the x64 standalone installer on a fresh install of Windows. Things seem a bit zippy. Boot up might be improved by a few seconds. Memory useage is hovering around 1.06gb. I will try the large batch of files-folders later. I'm interested to see if the improvements are noticeable.

The only programs I have installed are Office 2010 Pro, Norton 360, and Adobe Flash Player. All drivers up to date.

The first of those appeared yesterday as important, SP1 at the time was only optional. I installed the first and SP1 became important with the second appearing as optional. Then after SP1 install the second appeared as important. Maybe it's best to install in that sequence.

For my part, I just used Windows Update to install SP1 on a pre-existing installation (running since W7 launch without format). Runs great. Oh, and I just had a chance to test a few games. It hasn't effected maximum framerates, but the minimums are definitely up around 5% across the board (5 games tested).

Tried last night to download but had a couple of failures, so gave up and when I got back from town this morning went to Windows Update again and it was waiting with a tick in the box so told it to carry on, it did from where it left off last night and downloaded and installed after the reboot I now have Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. I did the other updates that were around last night the SP1 for my machine was about 61.3 MB in size.

Installed sp1 yesterday. Some initial thoughts:

1. Took about 35 minutes to install.
2. Machine seems marginally more responsive.
3. Windows experience index improved from 5.4 to 5.9 for primary hard disk speed - everything else remained the same
4. Had a crash on wake from sleep. I have not been able to reproduce. Machine used to crash on wake form sleep (was resolved with KB977178 which deals with large hard drives taking a long time to spin up - I wonder if this is an issue)
5. required 3 hotfixes afterwards (windows update)
6. All applications seem to work as before

Installed Saturday via MSDN download and I checked for Updates on Sunday and there weren't any, must check again at the weekend.

I did a clean install with integrated install media a couple of weeks ago. I managed to snag a leaked Microsoft Technet ISO image of Ultimate with SP1. I used that to make universal install media/USB thumbdrive. My system is definitely not any slower. It seems faster, but you usually get that anyway with a clean install. On the day I did my install Windows update reported I was totally up to date when I ran it. The only thing there was an update for Microsoft Security Essentials. I ran it twice just to be sure. Since then I've had about 4 security updates and 3 windows updates. The rest are for office and other Microsoft products. I've downloaded the stand alone versions for 32 and 64 bit, I'll save them to a thumbdrive for future use. I downloaded the full SP1 ISO too, just in case I might need it. That would be something I could loan to somebody and not worry about getting it back.

hmmmm............ Now that SP1 is officially out, is there anyway I can get the ISO of Ultimate with SP1 so that anytime in future if have to reinstall my Windows 7 Ultimate, I can use it? And I would prefer a torrent.

As a next question, will it be legal if anybody who has that ISO makes it available as a torrent? (The end-user anyway has to have a valid key to use and activate it.)

I can't find a link to the site I got them from, I must have deleted it from my favorites or lost it after my last clean install. I don't think we are allowed to post it anyway. Somebody could probably PM you and not get into any trouble. Torrents can be risky! My MD5 checksum and hash codes matched those of the official TechNet downloads so I'm reasonably sure my images were not altered from the originals. I don't have and can't afford a Technet or MSDN subscription so I had to take my chances and download the ISO images off of the Internet. I used my legally bought product code to do my install. I think Microsoft should let you download an ISO if your PC is activated and validated. I don't see it happening but I bet it would make NetBook owners very happy. No product code, just the ISO so you could make install media like a bootable thumbdrive.

Have you seen this - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...ows-7-sp1-into-installation-dvd-iso-file.html. It's not the slipstreamed version itself.... but you can make your own
