Win7 SP1 released to public

Looks it starting for some to be painfull SP1 experience with a numerous of different numbers of "failed to install" or "cannot continue"...

I'm another victim of a bad SP1 experience, got a BSOD after it installed, thank the computer gods for backups.

Didn't have one lick of problems with downloading SP1 on my desktop or laptop!
Downloaded the smaller files separately/rebooted then ran the big SP1 file by itself.
Maybe it was helpful that earlier today I ran updates on MBAM and SuperAntiSpy and ran quick scan( found nothing).
But the key is to DOWNLOAD SP1 BY ITSELF!!

Agreed, install it alone. Mine went without fault and a clean install of Win 7 may not have hurt either even though I had a ton of updates waiting for other things like Office since it was a clean install.

That's how I download any SP in stand alone form either the msi, exe, or dvd iso. For 7 I'm going for two along with the dvd iso to see how things go.

Worked perfect for me I guess I am one of the lucky ones. I updated everything I could before downloading SP1. But yes, it seems as though I am having the same problems as other people. My startup is a couple seconds slower, and my CPU resources are a bit higher at idle than before... Maybe a fix in the future?

Downloaded SP1 from WU & installed yesterday without any probs whatsoever.

I have tried downloading the SP1 on the website but it gave me an error and then reverted back during the configuration part. Should i download via the windows update, it's so slow.

On the download page you will find the iso image for both 32bit and 64bit combined, two separate msi forms for each, and the stand alone exe types for both flavors(32, 64bit). Which did you go for? if the exe try the msi or if msi try the exe.

Apparently the size differences on the msi are due to the latest few updates just seen added on to each second donwload link. You can try it through the updates being just the SP by itself to see if that works. You may want to look over the steps to take before the next try to see if that helps. I didn't have to download anything (well...I had to download Win7, doh, lol )....I got my SP1 integrated on the 16th through TechNet

Haven't really noticed anything different so far....isn't it just one big collection of all the previously released updates though?

Even with the SP1 RTM installed (on January 15th), I still received these updates:

(sorry if I'm repeating an experience already presented in this thread - I've been gone a few weeks)

Both of those updates were release on 2/21/2011 after SP1 was final. First one was a reliability update and the other was for printing XPS files.

I had a weird occurance today. Computer booted up but the desktop never appeared. It wasn't a total lock up or anything, just a black screen. I was able to ctrl alt del to log off my user account, and reboot then everything was fine on next boot. It almost seemed as if my video card drivers never started. Who knows?

This was on a fresh install, then up to date drivers, then immediate service pack install.

When I installed SP1 back on January 15th, my start-up time became horrendously long. It lasted only a short while and then became faster than before. I attributed it to re-indexing and a reorganization of Superfetch. Either way, it was a short-lived phenomena.

When I clean installed, it showed around 40 or so updates (not counting WiFi, Radeon GFX Card). I'm assuming most of them were in SP1. These are my installed updates

Meanwhile for those running into one particular error when going to install the service pack this may be due to having restored your drive from an image as had been done here on several occasions. The SP1 installer won't be able to access the primary and ends up stalling.

One solution: Start>All Programs>Accessories>Command prompt Right on that to run as admin if you don't already have the elevated command prompt shortcut and type "mountvol /E" followed by a full restart. Immediately the SP installer goes to work on the 64bit 7.

Update down - but

Have got the SP1 installed except for the KB 2385730 (failed both machines) . As you can see I only got four KB's on my desktop and the laptop suppose this is right? Although the KB2488113 had to be reinstalled today on the laptop.

Machines were a bit chaotic yesterday but seem to be settling down after a few reboots. Only problem is a continuous running line of //// in the Google search window or the sticky note - at times on the laptop.

Perhaps a chkdsk overnight might sort things out a bit - good idea or not??

It's a flip of a coin really. 50/50 chance.

Too many variables to really give an exact answer. Try it out, If things run smoothly leave it go.

If things aren't working out, uninstall it and troubleshoot.
