Win7codecs

Use a good player and you don't need additional codecs. If you search a little you will find that adding these things causes more problems than they solve.
This one in particular is F'd up. It actually has some rogeware in it. Are people this dumb to argue this is a clean program? The only clean codec pack is CCCP, and even still, a good video player like TheKMplayer and GOM are codec free! I use CCCP for convenience with encoding, but if you are just watching, I recommend not using this.

you seem to be the dumb one around here. sorry to see you have made it so obvious.
A bit of research would reveal the following information about FALSE POSITIVES.

the following is COPIED from Shark007.net - Troubleshooting codec issues

CONCERNING VIRUS DETECTION: I have received a response from the makers of Nod32 (eset.com): "Dear Shark007, Thank you for contacting us. Win32/Packed.Autoit.Gen potentially unwanted application is an optional detection which is not enabled by default. Every user is asked if to turn it on or off ...
Every user is allowed to run your software when they properly adjust detection
(detection of potentially unwanted applications... or they define an exception for the executable)."

Bottomline: They refuse to fix their detection methods and blame the user for poor configuration.
My suggested solution: switch detection to using FREE AVG or for corporate users; switch to AVG

My software is cutting edge technology with more conveniences than you could shake a stick at that enables ANY directshow player full access to the decoding software. Maybe you just weren't aware that some people actually like Media Center. If your preference is to stay with ole mrs reliable, be my guest; but thats no reason go slapping my face. Enjoy her, and leave me alone.

I have a question, not sure if this is related to the codec pack or not.

How can I get windows to display a more accurate file type.

For example the vast majority just say Movie Clip or Video File for the type
I do have some more specifics like Quicktime Movie, 3GPP Audio/Video, and Windows Media audio/video

I'd like for example AVI,FLV,MP4 etc..

also my flv files are not playable in the preview pane?

The codecpack is responsible for those tags, eg. "Video Clip" for FLV files etc. These generic names are used because 'Filetype Associations' are not implemented as a default. I will put some thought into being more specific, but am not making any promises. I would have to completely rewrite the FileType Associations mechanism built into the Help TAB to accomplish this request (not a small task).

Odd that you should mention the preview pane because this is something I have been working on recently, although I have not accomplished anything (yet). It seems to only function for the Windows native filetypes. I have not given up on it yet though.

Alright.

You know it's actually weird because I could've sworn the preview pane was working for these file types until recently. I thought I did something to mess it up and can't get it back

New releases out today act on the supported file extension and report the filetype accordingly for example: if you hover an FLV you'll see; Type: FLV File

This is consistant for all filetypes supported by installing my software regardlesss of whether or not you choose to use the FileType Associations button on the Help TAB. If you plan to use Media Center or Windows Media Player I highly recomend use of the aformentioned button.

Hello Shark007

First, thank you for releasing these packs.

I can't explain very well, but...
I have Street Fighter IV and your pack installed.

And when I try to play videos that came with the game (Game Intro video, Characters' videos, etc), the game crashes.

The strange thing is I uninstalled your codec and after that I installed CCCP, and I could play those SFIV videos without the game crashing.

The SFIV's videos file type is .wmv.

Do you know how to fix it?
maybe change something in the settings?

I'm using the your x64 version. (now CCCP is uninstalled)

I could have sworn I added Street Fighter IV to the do not use list of FFDshow ...

anyway, open both settings applications and go to the Config TAB
In the x64 App, use the dropdown in the center and open FFDshow video
to add the Street Fighter 4 exe's (Street FighterIV.exe and SF4Launcher.exe) to the 'Don't use FFDshow in' list under Directshow Control. be sure to use a semi colon ( ; ) to separate the entries.

Do the same on the Config TAB of the 32bit App. (although FFDshow video is a button in that app)

you're welcome.

Due to a typo, version 1.3.7 has a possible error that can break playback in Media Center under certain circumstances. Most people will not have an issue but just in case you have been affected simply pressing the 'setup new user account' button on the Help TAB of v1.3.8 will correct it.

I suggest you install version 1.3.8 from MajorGeeks

Thank you for the answer

I checked FFD video and audio configs

and as you said, the SFLauncher.exe and StreetFihgterIV.exe are in the exception list. (32bits and 64bits)

However it didn't work.

edit: actually, I changed in the Subtitle control the option:

DirectVobSub to FFDShow/Embedded (I don't know what is the difference between External and Embedded, since these two didn't work on my videos) and this allowed me to play videos inside SFIV.

I was using DirectVobSub because when I selected FFDShow, it didn't show subs on my videos.

edit²: well, I checked DirectVobSub's settings and I changed the Loading (Properties/Loading/ and then changed "Always" to "Load when needed" and I checked only "Embedded")

looks like that it worked well on both Videos with subs(that I watch) and SFIV.

if what I changed (the Loading settings) is not a good idea, tell me :)

Personally I choose to turn the subs off as I rarely need them.
Whatever works for you is good by me. Thats what all those settings are there for.

A feature you may not be aware of on the MISC TAB is to save your settings so the next time you clean install the codecs you just need to press Restore and you're all set.

my nod32 found a potential threat:

Win7codecs\Tools\Settings32.exe

but i installed it anyways.

i noticed absolutely no difference yet between having this and not having this.

gomplayer still doesn't play most mp4s on my windows 7 64 bit system, and for some mkv files there is still no picture on neither gomplayer nor media play classic home cinema, or windows media player 12, like this one for example:

DJ_Webstar_&_Jim_Jones_(Ft._T-Rex)-She_Can_Get_It-WORKPRINT- ... at uploaded.to - Free File Hosting, Free Image Hosting, Free Music Hosting, Free Video Hosting, ...
DJ_Webstar_&_Jim_Jones_(Ft._T-Rex)-She_Can_Get_It-WORKPRINT- ... at uploaded.to - Free File Hosting, Free Image Hosting, Free Music Hosting, Free Video Hosting, ...

but it plays perfectly fine without having to do anything to it on splash (with or without this pack).

It is a false positve. To adjust Nod32 properly, follow this link

Settings32.exe contains the UNINSTALLER on the Help TAB. It must be installed to facilitate the uninstallation of this software. If your AV software blocked it from installing, you'll need configure your AV software to allow it, then perform a repair using the icon in Control Panel, Programs and Features
.

These players use their own codecs, not the ones installed by my releases.
You need to learn to configure these players to use external codecs. Also if you allowed GOM Player to download and install the codecs it THINKS you need, you are going to be in a real mess.

or windows media player 12, like this one

Most likely choosing a different splitter for MP4's on the MPG~MP4 TAB will fix your Windows Media Player issue. I am downloading your posted MKV sample for testing ..
will follow up soon...

Back from testing that MKV you uploaded, everything i tried, different splitters, different decoders, different players, nothing at all would render this file as playable in Windows 7.

hi sharky
thanks for the quick response. no i didn't allow it to install codecs it thinks it needs lol it was a fresh gomplayer installation.

well actually splash player did render it as playable on my windows 7 64 bit. i think kantaris did as well but i'm not 100% sure as i already deleted all those programs before trying out this codec pack.
