Win7codecs

strange, i also only had the lite version, maybe it worked because of that haali splitter codec i had installed which i took out before.

my kmplayer still plays it on win7 though

The fact that i produce codecpacks equates to playback issues intriguing me.
I took your mkv sample to a Vista Machine and was also not able to get it to play there.

From Vista, I had a peak here, and saw this post about kmplayer. I installed it. Tested it. it played the posted sample. Bottomline of this story, I thank JayLovesKases for presenting a playback challenge I have not encountered in the past And was quite surprised that an MKV existed that I could not support.

^^ you're welcome!

i'm sure i can find a couple more if i just look around my computer a little. i didn't really think anybody took joy in my pains.

on vista 32 gomplayer played that file as well though (at least it did for me). the original mpc had some trouble with a couple of mkv files though.

 guys obsessed with fixing things are so cute! looking forward to you coming up with something.

do you want another mkv file that basically doesn't play video on wmp, mpchc, or gomplayer but works on kmplayer? it might be different somehow. not sure.

I've seem to found another FLV code issue relating to WMP

FLV files started from within the WMP library don't have a timecode, which means you can't seek.

However if an FLV file is opened from explorer it plays and seeks just fine

Use a good player and you don't need additional codecs. If you search a little you will find that adding these things causes more problems than they solve.

Although I generally agree with you and a friend has documented your point here: ( Why Codec Packs Are Bad :: How-To Geek Wiki ), I have the impression that Shark's stuff is OK to use. He seems to tightly control what he's putting in so that you don't end up with a junk collection of stuff.

Shark, This looks nice. Problem is that the average user has no clue which options to choose. Who knows the difference between MS codec and FFDshow codec, etc. It would be most useful to provide a guide that helps the user to navigate thru this maze.

I seem to have an issue, but i dont think its the codecs, i think its my gfx card...

anyone want to have a look at the fault..
Picasa Web Albums - Lez - bigbang

last of the four pictures, click the 100% magnify and drag image so you can see top left, you will see what should be a solid colour wall, has stripes....

I'm sure is not on the source footage, which I took from s03e04bigbang, 180.33mb with sample, its from the midpoint of the sample)(I only downloaded the sample, not the whole episode, i think i'm right in that clips of less than a certain length are not infringing copyright, but lets not discuss that here, this is a image qualitypost not a morals debate, and for comparison to other software/hardware, it needs a clip thats easily obtainable, I know the length issue applies to tv broadcasts in my country)

If your Video drivers are up to date from the ATI website I'd say your card has a problem.

off topic:

Big Bang Theory - Media Player Quality Test!

back to the topic at hand. sharky, so i installed the version prior to 2. and as explained on your site i had to install the 32bit before installing the 64bit. should i remove both the 32bit and the 64bit and reinstall the new ones or just the 64bit?

and did you fix the issue with that mkv?

2.0 has enough changes / enhancements to do a complete version jump. Most would consider that type of version jump to be an important release. I would suggest using it. The x64 Components has the same enhancements as its 32bit counterpart but isnt really a codec package but more of an addon for the 32bit release therefore it didnt receive the version jump as the 32bit release had.

There is nothing to 'fix' concerning that MKV.
The simple matter of fact is that it is extremely pooly encoded to the point that almost all players fail to play it. The only true fix is to use the delete button. The fact that KMPlayer can handle it is a virtue of the player and not an indication of a codec issue.

seems my card decodes nearly everything in hardware, if i want it to or not... and thats where that striping effect is coming from, i have mailed ati, i may hold my breath, but i dont think that would work. I may need to buy a new graphics card and hate ati for ever, please matrox make desktop cards again......

So to sum up, ts not a fault in the codec pack.

a little help please?

I'm using shark's codec to play FLV files in WMP so I think the issue of FLV files not having a timecode in the library has to do with some kind of codec setting?

The player itself is at fault. Simple proof is that other players do not exibit this behavior. FLAC reacts identically to flv. Unless you're a Microsoft engineer, or can influence one, nothing will be done to correct it. This issue is not new and has existed since XP (at least)

If you use the Filetypes Association button provided on the Help TAB, you can also choose multiple files in Windows Explorer, rightclick, and use 'Add to Windows Media Player list' and all files will be seekable within Windows Media Player.

Hello, Shark. I came to a call for help. I always was a loser, when the matter was configuring codecs in my PC. And even now, with Windows 7 (an awesome OS) and your codec pack (I believe heartily in your work, dude), I´m having a bad time here.

First, I already have seen the poor quality of VLC player, compared with the new WMP (and this is a good point to WMP. This is the first time, in long years, that I want to use it!). So, I see your codec pack, read the entire treadh here, and tried to install it and configure it to load my .rmvb, .flv and .mkv all in the WMP.

After try this or that configuration, this is what I achieve:

a) the .flv, .rmvb and .mkv insist in don´t open in WMP;
b) if I open a folder that contains a .rmvb or a .mkv file, the explorer crashes.

Now, as I said early, I trust in your codec pack, and I have a history of personal problems with codec packs. :o

So, if you, or any other partner here of the forum, could help me to make a good config of my Windows, I will be very grateful.

I´m using the 7100 compilation, 64 bits.

Right now, I unninstalled the codec pack (and even with this, some of my files don´t open now in the WMP, only in VLC), to take control again of my explorer.

Well, thanks in advance for the help, and sorry for the bad english. :)

Well, the good point is that this time, it´s not my fault. :p

So, I will wait until the official release. Some brazilian shops are working with the pre-selling, but my finances need a little of time, before I buy it.

Thanks for the info, Shark. When I upgrade my OS, I will came to your pack again. :)
