Windows 7 (64-Bit) Freeze/Stuck/Hanging Up Constantly?

Im using Windows & (64-Bit). Sony VAIO VGN-NS 330 J, Pentium Dual Core with 4GB Ram, [email protected].

I recently got a wireless internet usb dongle from a local operator. Its a plug and play usb that installs its own software upon attaching. Since then i installed a few software as well. Now my computer seems to freeze up randomly from time to time. Sometimes a few minutes after starting and sometimes after a few minutes or hours.

I have reinstalled the usb software and plugged it into a different port but it continues to hang up.

I uninstalled the software, yet this problem is persistent. I lose valuable work and data and have to shut the laptop down by pulling the battery. I think this will also corrupt my windows.

Please advise if this problem is relating to the usb, some software or is a bug.

Is there anything of significance reported in Event Viewer? If it's a relatively recent issue, could u try a system restore perhaps?

Click on Orb/Start and type Event Viewer; u never know actually, SR could very well fix things if this is a (relatively) recent problem IMO.

i went into summary of administrative events and opened the critical tab. its says kernel power there. the number of occurances is the same as the number of hang ups i think. could this be the problem?

I am pretty sure that new files (eg. Office docs etc.) will not be lost; new program installs after the date of the SR might be lost. Might be a good idea to backup all important data onto an external drive.

You could try a repair install, but a system restore would be the first option that I would try...
